The story of Simon-8
This is the story of my husband who created our company single handed and still works a fulltime job. He takes care of our son whenever he is home, he is a trainee scout leader and takes our son to Beavers every Monday night, he takes him for swimming lessons, football training, he helps his friend run Rollers Skating sessions at weekend and has movie nights with our son every weekend. He even finds time to help his elderly mother which he done since his father passed away 12 years ago.
He started our company Simon-8 based on nostalgia and affinity for electric fly killers having worked man and boy for Insect-O-Cutor and been a leading designer in the industry. He was approached many times by past acquaintances who had the infrastructure to develop, manufacture and market his designs. After each project ended in disappointment ultimately due to the lack of commitment on the part of the companies who under estimated the amount of work and cost involved with launching a product, he decided to do it alone. There were some wrong decisions made and setbacks over the course of starting
Simon-8, but eventually he got it of the ground in 2021. Now after almost 2 years our business has established itself and we’ve got many happy customers.
Let me tell you about the things my husband has done singled handed to get Simon-8 where it is today.
• Designed some electric fly killers and made samples.
• Registered the company Simon-8.
• Organised accountants to maintain our books.
• Registered for VAT.
• Established WEEE partners.
• Set up ICO account.
• Photographed products for our website.
• Designed and built www.simon-8.com
• Established social media for Simon-8.
• Establish Amazon store.
• Set up Ebay store.
• Purchased production equipment and storage.
• Sourced and ordered all the materials and parts.
• Paid vendors invoices.
• Designed final products using CAD/CAM.
• Created the programs for Punching/laser cutting parts.
• Created artwork for labels and screen printing.
• Folded all the parts ready for painting.
• Turned P.T.F.E. insulators on his lathe.
• Cut and drilled P.T.F.E. separators.
• Assembled all the electric fly killers.
• Bought and repaired a Clare Test Station for electrical safety testing.
• Wrote and published user manuals.
• Started networking.
• Created marketing campaigns.
• Established merchant payments.
• Tested the efficacy of the electric fly killers.
• Packed and arranged delivery of customer’s orders.
Many of our competitors don’t even design and manufacture their own products. So if anyone deserves success it is my wonderful husband. Never Give Up!

Our friends keep spotting Insect-O-Cutors from when we all worked together like a family. I will be meeting some of these mates tonight for a few pints and a catch up. Still great friends even though we’ve not worked together for 12 years.
