New scam targeting iPhone users.
The scam is simple: a text that appears to come from Apple alerts you to Apple Pay fraud and gives a number to call to stop the transaction. “Experts say the scam relies on urgency, impersonation, and convincing personal details.” Calling connects to a criminal who may pose as Apple, law enforcement, a bank, or a card issuer. The calls and numbers are fake.
Apple warns scammers may claim they’ll help reverse “unauthorised charges using Apple Pay” and then link to a fake website to steal credentials. Apple adds it "will never ask you to log in to any website, or to tap Accept in the two-factor authentication dialogue, or to provide your password, device passcode or two-factor authentication code, or to enter it into any website.”
This isn’t limited to Apple, Microsoft, Google and other big tech users face similar schemes. The companies say they do not send unsolicited texts asking you to call support or give sensitive information.
Be careful out there!

Phishing scams
Phishing attempts pose a significant risk to businesses by camouflaging harmful emails as authentic messages. This tactic aims to trick individuals into revealing sensitive data or downloading malware with the same intent.
These fraudulent emails often imitate legitimate communications from well-known and trusted organisations, making it simpler for attackers to mislead recipients. To avoid being a victim it is essential to confirm the legitimacy of unexpected emails and remain vigilant for indications of phishing, like suspicious URLs, unfamiliar senders, or solicitations for personal details. Apple Scam Emails
Be aware of scam emails pretending to be from Apple’s iCloud service, which use various claims to convince recipients to click on malicious links within the message.
These deceptive messages attract interest by stating "all your photos will be deleted, or your payment method has expired." If you have received this email, as per our normal advice, do not click on any links.
The links connect to phishing websites that gather personal details, such as your name, email address, phone number and financial details.

Google Update
Google has released a critical update for the Chrome browser following the identification of two security vulnerabilities that hackers are actively exploiting. These flaws can allow cybercriminals to access personal data or deploy malicious software by directing users to a compromised website.
For companies it is important to ensure all devices are updated as a single browser left unpatched still poses a threat.
OrbitTech assists businesses across Surrey and the South East by offering proactive IT management, tackling issues like these before they escalate.

Cyber security for small businesses
In the past few months, there have been widely reported instances of cyber assaults on large companies, resulting in significant financial losses and a decrease in public trust. Aside from remedial costs companies incur reputational harm and revenue losses.
IT security is a prominent issue in the business world. While major corporations invest vast sums in safeguarding their data, the question arises: what about small businesses? Are they targeted? How might they be affected by cyber threats and breaches in data security? The facts and forecasts are:
• In the last year, 68% of small businesses suffered a cyber breach or attack
• The average cost for those that lost data or assets was £101,701
• Every 11 seconds, a business receives a ransomware attack. 71% of these attacks are on small and medium-sized businesses
• By 2030, it’s predicted to be every 2 seconds.
There are cost-effective ways to protect your business. OrbitTech can help!

Keep Software Updated
Keeping apps and the operating systems updated isn’t just about accessing the latest features, it is the first line of defense against security threats. Outdated software often contains vulnerabilities that hackers exploit. By staying up-to-date device performance is enhanced and personal information and other data better protected. In 2025 over 60% of data breaches occurred where the software was outdated.
What to prioritise:
Operating System (Windows/macOS/Linux)
Browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox)
Antivirus software
Productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft 365, Adobe Suite)
Tips:
Enable automatic updates whenever possible. Block 15–20 minutes monthly to check and initiate any manual updates.

Getting More From Your Social Media
Social networking platforms use sophisticated algorithms to manage accounts. These are influenced by AI machine learning which is guided by user interaction and engagement.
To get more from your media you can "train" the algorithm by actively participating in posts: such as, like, follow, comment, and share.
Additionally use platform-specific tools to tailor your feed, hide unwanted content, and provide feedback.

Increase Security by Using Passkeys
Passwords are no longer as secure as other options. Websites and apps now support more secure passkeys to log in. These passkeys are tied to the device they have been saved on. Windows 11 can now store your passkeys or use those stored on other devices such as your smartphone and take advantage of authentication via PIN, facial recognition, or fingerprint.
