Libya has been left devastated after Storm Daniel brought heavy rainfall to the area, resulting in 2 Dams collapsing and the ensuing floods.
To put this into perspective, this region usually receives 1.5mm of rain in the entire month of September. When Storm Daniel passed, it dropped 400mm of rain within a 24-hour period. That’s 260 times the monthly average for this region. The dams were not equipped to deal with this amount of rainfall and collapsed under the pressure.
Sadly, over 5,000 people are known to have died, with another 10,000 currently missing. It is estimated that the death toll could rise to nearly 20,000.
If you are travelling to Libya to provide aid, then please remember that the FCDO have advised against ‘all travel’ to Libya continuously since 2014 and this advice has not changed. For more information on Libya as a whole, please see our country profile here:

Morocco is in the midst of one of its worst disasters since 2004 after a 6.8 magnitude quake struck near Marrakesh.
This earthquake is the deadliest in Morocco since 1960, with over 2,000 people reported to have died so far. Foreign aid is currently on its way to Morocco to help in whatever ways possible.
Currently the FCDO is not advising against travel to Morocco, however, it is important that you keep an eye on advice in case this changes.
