A couple of snippets from the week!

I was struggling to post this because I didn’t have a “perfect” cover image. But if I waited for things to be perfect I would never post (kind of like I didn’t for the beginning of the year 🤫) I need to work on my product photography and also getting more pieces glazed to show! Im slowly getting there but its a slow process and there are some exciting things I’m working on I can’t share just yet so there is even less to show at the moment. So these are just a few messy clips from the week.
I’ve also been thinking a lot about my glazes lately and notice myself gravitating towards more earthy colours, I’m nervous to go down this route because people love the colourful glazes I use. But it is something I want to explore and I feel will work well with the shape and style of my work. What do you think, keep the bright colours or explore and go to the earthy darker tones?

I haven’t been posting, but I have been working away.
Slowly working on new ideas, orders and testing out new glazes.
Finding the fun in pottery again after a few years of being in production mode.
Will I get better at posting about it? Probably not, but that’s okay.

Just a little look into what a day in the life of this potter can look like, each day is so different and I think that’s one of the things I really enjoy about pottery it that everyday is different, and there’s such a mix of things to be done!

Excited to be part of the first Highland Pottery Fair this weekend! Will be a great weekend open 10-4 Saturday and Sunday at the Wasps studios in Inverness! Lots of great potters will be there, cannot wait! And what better way to stay out of the stormy weather that’s heading our way then going to a pottery fair and seeing lots of lovely pots!

I don’t think I’ve ever done a post to introduce myself, so thought now would be a good time… Hi I’m Jenny! 👋 I’m the potter behind Jenny Brown Studio. I’m based in Moray in the North of Scotland, I’m a predominantly self taught potter and have now been doing pottery for about 4 years. Last year I decided to give it a go and go full time into pottery, at the same time as renovating a house with my partner (might not have been the best idea, the house may never get finished) but I am absolutely loving working on my dream (even though sometimes the self doubt gremlins creep in and try to ruin it for me). And here are some bits about me I thought I could share with you all…

1. I was scared to try pottery because I knew I would love it but was scared to be bad at it, turns out patience and practice help, and I can’t wait to see where I am with it in another 4 years. (If you’re looking for a sign to give it a go this is that sign! Try it!)
2. I’ve recently got back into swimming and it is now most of what I do in my free time (I have the cap and everything).
3. I’m renovating a house with my partner as already stated. We are doing most of it ourselves 😅
4. I’m an awkward bean, I normally say the wrong thing or stumble over my words.
5. It’s pretty lonely being a potter sometimes, I spend most of my time alone. But on the flip side the pottery community is awesome, I haven’t met a fellow potter who I haven’t liked. Everyone is so willing to help and give advice or words of encouragement.
6. I’m a low spoon (energy) girly which sometimes has an effect on my work and can be super frustrating but I’m learning to pace myself and listen to my body when it’s telling me to slow down.
7. I’m growing a herb garden to make my own teas from and absolutely loving it.

In the slides
1. Me (today) at my wheel
2. A quick clip of me throwing some tea cup bases
3. One of my first pieces next to one of my latest pieces
4. Loading up my little kiln
5. My first market selling my pottery
6. My latest market
7. Moving from my old studio to my current one
8. Me in renovation mode 👷🏻‍♀️

Matcha bowls! I made these deep matcha bowls with a simple functional shape. I decided to glaze them in white, purple and black as I thought the contrast between the bowl and the green of the matcha would give a lovely pop of colour, what do you think? I’m curious to know which colour you prefer, let me know in the poll!

These matcha bowls will be available this Friday on my shop update (4th July)

A few of the pieces that came out of the kiln this week that I’m really proud of, I’m really enjoying the combination of the flecked clay with my white glaze and the speckles that show through on the pieces. The cups in the first image were my favourite pieces from this firing, something about the simplicity of the shape with a detailed handle and the glaze works together perfectly creating a very cozy feel and honestly just works really well together, I feel after this firing that I have taken another step in my learning journey and I’m so excited to keep improving and finding more and more what my style is!

These pieces and many more will be available at my market stall this weekend, you can find me at the lossie summer fun day on Saturday the 28th of June!
