We have two Brother sewing machines free to use in the library. You need to be 16+, hold a valid library card, and be able to use a machine independently. We provide the kit, just bring your own fabric and materials.

Noisy Book Club launches on Friday 11th September, which is Book Club Day UK. Be a reading rebel and join us 😊

Designed for parents and carers with young children, this reading group welcomes noise, so nobody needs to shush anyone. Settle in with a cup of tea while we share short bursts of great new fiction, and let your little ones stretch and play close by.

Drop in on the second Friday of each month, 10.30am to 11.15am, free and no booking required.

On 8 October, Matt Bryden, Louisa Adjoa Parker and Rebecca Tantony will each read a short original piece written for the theme The Best Advice: a writing panel with the Royal Literary Fund.

Matt's pamphlet The Glassblower's House won the 2023 Live Canon Pamphlet Competition. Louisa is the author of the short story collection Stay with Me and poetry collections including How to Wear a Skin. Rebecca has published three collections with Burning Eye Books and taught creative writing at Bath Spa University. A chaired discussion follows.

Exeter Library has a new evening for musicians and songwriters🎶🎹🎧

The Song Symposium meets on the last Wednesday of September, October and November, giving you a relaxed space to share original music, get feedback and meet other people making music in Exeter. Hosted by library assistant and singer/songwriter Lorian Ross, sessions start with introductions and conversation before moving into listening and feedback on submitted songs. All genres welcome, live performance or pre-produced tracks.

Simon Stephens wrote The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. He also wrote The Uncertainty Principle, and it's coming to Exeter Library on 16 and 17 October. Performed by Living Room Theatre with Rose Reynolds and Philip Robinson, it's an 80-minute comedy about connection, chaos, and the things in life you cannot predict.🎭

Eden throws Lilith out, and she isn't done yet. Join Daylight Theatre at Exeter Library on Thursday 10 September, 10am to 12pm, for an uplifting storytelling performance rooted in myth and female power ✨🐍

This is a relaxed daytime edition of the show, designed to make theatre more accessible for parents and carers. Babes in arms are welcome, and older children can attend at their parents' discretion (please check the content warning below). Evening performances aren't for everyone, so come along without children too if that suits you better.

Stick around afterwards for a chat with Katy before her show heads out on tour this autumn. She's also performing an evening show at Cygnet Theatre on 25 September.

Content warning: this performance includes spoken-word depictions of s*x, r**e, infant death and miscarriage within a mythical context, and challenges traditional Christian beliefs. Recommended for ages 16+.
