Exeter Police

Our Neighbourhood Officers are out and about every day on mobile and foot patrols in your areas - they are available to respond to emergency and non-emergency jobs and often come across things on their travels too. This is the tracking of one of our Neighbourhood Officers on foot patrol around the City Centre this morning (the roads were passed multiple times, but the tracking doesn't show it very clearly!). Whilst on their patrols the Officer dealt with removing open vessels of alcohol from people drinking within the Public Spaces Protection area; completing positive Section 1 of PACE searches; returning stolen goods to local businesses; assisting with the arrest of a Wanted male; seizing drugs; engaging with local businesses and plenty more!

This is just a snapshot of some of the patrols and some of the jobs from one of our many Police Officers, the list is not exhaustive and our Neighbourhood and Response Police Officers and PCSO's cover the whole of Exeter every shift, so your area is well covered too. We appreciate it can be a little difficult to fully understand what we deal with aside from the small snippet on our page, and we know some of you enjoy posting your recommendations and improvements for us so we thought you might like to know about our Police ride-along scheme. This is a chance for you to come out with our Neighbourhood or Response Officers for a full shift to experience exactly what we get up to, which is probably a lot more than you'd think!

Bank Holiday! | Have a safe TRIP

Whether you’re leaving the south west or coming to visit, have a safe and enjoyable summer holiday road trip.

Follow the T.R.I.P. checks every driver needs to perform to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe.

TOP UP your fuel or battery, oil and screen wash
REST with planned stops of at least 15 minutes every two hours
INSPECT tyre pressure, tread depth and for cracks or tears before setting out
PREPARE for all weather conditions…it may be very hot, or we may have rain and thunderstorms

We’ll add that SPEED limits are there for your safety, they are not a target. Drive within the limit and to prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions. So, TRIPS: as easy to remember as TRIP.

APPEAL | We are aware of a video which had been circulating on an Exmouth community group social media page yesterday showing an assault taking place in Exeter.

The video has since been deleted.

We are currently investigating the incident, which occurred by Exeter Cathedral on Tuesday 25 August at around 8.15pm.

Numerous people were involved, and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about those responsible.

We would ask anyone with information to contact us via our website or by calling 101, quoting reference 50260229200.

You may or may not have seen these yellow signs around the City. They are “Need help? “ signs.
If you are feeling vulnerable or unsafe or have seen something that worries you, you can call the phone number on the sign and quote the specific location reference code shown on the yellow plaque.
The CCTV operators will then use the corresponding camera to locate you, assist with the situation , keep watch or coordinate help.
These are a great addition to helping keep people safe in Exeter city centre but obviously don’t replace 999 if you need immediate help.

Please keep an eye out for them and tell your friends and family about them

Today we were able to return a quality mountain bike back to the rightful owner who was delighted. This bike was recovered after a report that a bike had been left at a location and they believed it to be stolen, luckily the owner had reported the theft to us and had the manufacturer, model and the frame number. The bicycle has now been registered on Bike Register, if you want your bicycle registered please keep an eye on this page as the events will be advertised here.

Between 1600hrs and 1800hrs on Wednesday 19th August 2026 the Exeter Neighbourhood Police team will be holding a free Bike Register event at the front of the RILD building at the RD&E Barrack Road, Exeter, EX2 5DW. We will register an account for you and attach a tamper proof sticker to your bicycle, all you need is an email account, your bicycle and the bicycle serial number.

PCSO Gav Menditta and PC Wilf Arrowsmith recently St Gabriel’s primary school to speak to students about the dangers of carrying weapons.

This talk is just one of the tactics we're using to keep weapons off our streets and complimented topics already being discussed in class; allowing children the opportunity to ask questions and to learn about the consequences of carrying items that could harm others.
