Unfair Dismissal Reform: What Employers Need to Know

From 1 January 2027, the qualifying period for bringing an ordinary unfair dismissal claim will reduce from two years’ continuous employment to six months.

The change will have important implications for employers, particularly when it comes to probation periods, fixed term contracts and managing employee performance.

Our latest insight looks at the changes and sets out practical steps employers can take now to prepare, including reviewing probation procedures and ensuring performance concerns are addressed at an early stage.

The Legal 500 2027 UK rankings have now been released, with all eight of Tozers’ recognised practice areas retaining their 2026 tier positions.

A tough result for in their first Gallagher PREM match of the season, with Gloucester taking the win 45–24 at Sandy Park.
