The Guildhall has served as the center piece of Exeter's civic life for more than 800 years and has now opened its large oak doors for Weddings and Civil Partnerships. One of the oldest buildings in Exeter, the Guildhall is not only a structure of outstanding architectural interest, but remains a busy working building, still used regularly for a variety of civic functions

Guildhall closed this weekend

As a historic building that continues to play an active role in civic life, Exeter Guildhall is regularly used for Mayoral functions, Council meetings, weddings, private hires and other events.
Because of this, public access cannot always be guaranteed.

🧤 Exeter Lammas Fair returns tomorrow, Thursday 9 July!
Enjoy the Lord Mayor’s procession and see the famous giant white glove raised above the Guildhall in a tradition that’s over 900 years old.
After the ceremony, the Lord Mayor will head to Cathedral Green to officially open the Exeter Craft Festival, which runs until the 11th of July.

For a more intimate celebration, discover The Jury Room. Rich in history and character, this remarkable space once safeguarded the city’s records before becoming the room where juries deliberated court cases, the last of which took place in 1971.
Today, its stunning Victorian interior, adorned with classical paintings of former dignitaries and influential figures, provides an enchanting backdrop for smaller wedding celebrations. With space for up to 35 guests, it’s the perfect setting for a romantic and personal occasion.
