Hey everyone! Itβs River up at the allotmentπ±π
Omg we just spent almost an HOUR after school picking off πππ from our poor broccoli + cabbages π₯¦π₯¬ β¦ where are they even coming from?!
Itβs like a caterpillar party out there π
Leaves are looking like lace now π when do they STOP eating everything?!
We didnβt want to hurt them (biodiversity forever π±π) so we carefully re-homed them down the bottom of the field with a little snack to keep them going ππ₯¬ Will they move on? Weβll check tomorrow π
Bye for now, River β¨

π±π Hey Garden Gurus! River here, reporting live from the veggie patch with some September updates ππͺ΄
The grass finally got its buzz cut and the beds smell like clean earth after the showers π§οΈπ±
Garlic and autumn onions tucked in neat rows. New compost bay gulped the clippings with a happy hiss.
Caterpillars still partying on the brassicas. Hand-picked a lot. Netting back on. π₯¬
Little win: the beets tasted extra sweet after those cool nights. π₯
Next up: plant the purple sprouting broccoli, turn the new heap, and label the potato sacks.
If you want to find out more about what we got up to in September you can read the full Plog (Plot log) here: https://www.fromplot2plate.co.uk/september2025plotupdate/allotment-blog/ π

π±βοΈ Devon Weather + Globe Artichoke Drama! βοΈπ±
Hey everyone!! π So, down here in sunny Devon, itβs been SUPER mild for this time of year. It was 13 degrees today = total t-shirt weather! ππΈ
Last month, we followed our gardening book π and cut back the first-year growth on our globe artichokes (bye-bye, baby leaves π₯²).
Then, we got all clever and mulched them with grass clippings -> BIG thanks to whoever suggested that on Facebook! π‘π
BUTβ¦ now things have gotten weird. The artichokes have started to grow again! π²πΏ
Like, what are you doing, little plants?! This isnβt spring!
Weβre scratching our heads over here. π€ Should we:
οΏ½π± Cut them back AGAIN?οΏ½π± Leave them to grow and see what happens?οΏ½π± Add even more mulch and hope for the best?
We NEED your expert advice! Please help us out in the comments! ππ
