He slashed her neck above her windpipe, stamped on her bleeding body, and ripped off her diabetes sensor as she lay helpless.

The terrifying 3:30 AM domestic attack left a woman covered in blood, slashed twice across the neck, and stamped on by her serial criminal partner.

Martyn Boyns snapped during an argument in their kitchen, punching his girlfriend in the face and stamping on her head while she lay helpless on the floor.

When she bravely stood up to him and declared she was not afraid, the 41-year-old grabbed a knife and brutally slashed her neck - not once, but twice.

As she collapsed to the ground bleeding heavily above her windpipe, Boyns showed no mercy, repeatedly stamping on her wounded neck.

In a cruel act of pure malice, the attacker even ripped off her diabetes sensor while she suffered from double vision and deep lacerations.

The victim was rushed to hospital needing emergency stitches for an 8cm slash and a 4cm wound directly over her windpipe.

This wasn't his first violent offense. Boyns boasts a staggering 25 previous convictions for 67 offenses, including battery, threats to kill, and assaulting emergency workers.

Despite his horrific rap sheet and the sheer brutality of the attack, his defense blamed a "chaotic childhood" and lifelong substance abuse.

Judge Simon Carr admitted the horrific assault "could have been so much worse" and branded it an "extreme case of domestic violence."

Yet, despite pleading guilty to unlawful wounding, Boyns was handed just an 18-month prison sentence at Truro Crown Court.

A woman said she was left ‘distressed’ after seeing a man wearing no trousers forcing a large carrot up his bum at a beauty spot in Ess*x.

Tim Meehan was witnessed by a woman with his bottom half bare on Two Tree Island near Southend-on-Sea.

Basildon Magistrates Court heard the woman was with her dogs when she saw the top half of Meehan near a small hill in the nature reserve.

She turned around but later encountered Meehan a second time

Sara Thompson, prosecuting, told the court: ‘This time he had his back to her and something in his hand. He then put it [the carrot] in his bum.’

The court heard another passer-by told Meehan to put his trousers back on.

District Judge King said there was a suggestion Meehan, 49, was intoxicated when he took off his clothes.

Meehan appeared in court on Thursday, speaking only to confirm his identity, having admitted to one charge of enraging public decency straight away.

Judge King said Meehan’s early plea meant his sentence would be reduced, but adjourned the case to await a report prepared by the probation service.

Meehan, of Westcliff-on-Sea, will be sentenced at a hearing in November.

A mother, grandmother and stepfather have avoided jail after inflicting years of physical and emotional abuse on three children in a “house of terror”.

Julia Stephen, Shirley Freeman and David McColl’s young victims were beaten, starved and psychologically tormented between 2003 and 2012.

Freeman, 51, the children’s mother, and Stephen, their grandmother, 69, were convicted at Aberdeen sheriff court of cruel and unnatural treatment. McColl, 50, admitted the crimes.

Handing the trio probation and a combined 610 hours of unpaid work, Sheriff Craig Findlater said no sentence could “repair the awful childhoods” their victims had suffered.

A trial had heard that Freeman, now of Cullen, Moray, had created a “house of terror” for her children.

Two of her children, William and Meaghann Murphy, gave evidence that helped secure the convictions of their mother and grandmother. The third victim was their younger sister Rebekah, who said she had been left with lifelong mental health problems.

Jurors heard that the abuse took place at homes in Balloch and Aberdeen and affected all three siblings.

William, now 25, told the court he had been subjected to regular beatings with belts and pinned by the neck.

“All I remember is being followed around the room, being hit,” he said. “I was resisting, but I gave up at one point.”

Mr and Ms Murphy described how blades were left under their pillows and that Ms Murphy had once awoke to find a meat cleaver in her bed.

By 2013, the siblings had both been taken into care, amid child protection concerns.

Police Scotland launched an investigation in 2022 after Mr Murphy made a statement.

Mr Murphy, who is now 25, said: “For as long as I can remember, family life was chaotic and unpredictable, and at times quite hostile. We were often made to sleep on the floor as a punishment.

“Sometimes when we had been really bad, they called it sleep deprivation, where they got us to stand up, like in a line, and we were made to stay awake.

“Your mind starts to play tricks on you. I remember starting to see faces in the wall.

“If we were dozing off or showed any sign that we weren’t taking it seriously, things were thrown at us, or we were shouted at, and the punishment was then extended.”

He said his older sister, Ms Murphy, tried to protect him and acted as a “human mattress” when they were sleeping.

“She took the brunt of sleeping on the concrete, and she would then let myself cuddle into her and rub the back of my head,” he said.

“She tried to shield us from as much as possible. She was our protector.”

Mr Murphy described how Stephen had told him and his sister that she had met a woman in prison called Charlotte, who was said to have later drowned and dismembered her five children.

She told her grandchildren that Charlotte’s ghost was watching them constantly and could communicate telepathically with the adults in the house.

“We were led to believe that Charlotte was watching at all times,” Mr Murphy said

He also alleged that the family moved from West Dunbartonshire to Aberdeen to prevent social workers finding out about the abuse and that the former authority closed the case.

Ms Murphy, who is now 28, described being deprived of food for days at a time and said locks were placed on cupboards to prevent the children helping themselves.

She said she continued to struggle with feelings of guilt that she could not offer her siblings more protection.

Freeman was convicted of three charges, including depriving the children of food, leaving them outside on a cold veranda while undressed and repeatedly striking them with a belt and belt buckle.

She was sentenced to 18 months’ probation, 240 hours of unpaid work, and a 12-month restriction of liberty order, as a direct alternative to custody.

Stephen was found guilty of three charges, including striking one of the children with a metal-studded belt and using the Charlotte story to frighten the children.

She was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and given 18 months of probation.

McColl was sentenced to 220 hours of unpaid work, 18 months probation, and an 11-month restriction of liberty order, as a direct alternative to custody.

Alison McKenzie, procurator fiscal for Grampian, Highlands and Islands, said the trio were adults when they “knowingly and deliberately subjected these children to a horrific catalogue of mistreatment”.

She said: “The evidence showed that, rather than providing the care, affection and security every child deserves, they engaged in a sustained pattern of cruelty, degradation and harmful behaviour.”

Det Insp Kerry McCombie of Police Scotland added: “The abuse spanned across the childhood years of the victims and I’d like to pay tribute to them for their bravery to bring this case before the courts.”

West Dunbartonshire council said the children were known to social work from 2007 and that information was shared with Aberdeen when the family moved.

Police have praised the actions of security staff from a Leeds pub after they stepped in to help a woman who was being attacked by a crazed illegal asylum seeker armed with a broken bottle.

The victim was on her way home from a meal out in March 2024 when Ibrahim Albashir grabbed her and launched a "frenzied" attack.

Leeds Crown Court heard the men responded to the assault opposite the Original Oak pub, in Otley Road, after hearing her "blood-curdling screams", knocking Albashir, 34, unconscious in order to stop him.

Albashir, who is originally from Sudan was given a 25-year prison sentence along with an indefinite hospital order after admitting attempted murder at an earlier hearing.

Judge Robin Mairs explained this meant he would be detained indefinitely in a secure mental hospital and, if he ever recovered, he would be transferred to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.

He said it was not a matter for him whether the defendant, who told doctors he was brought to the UK by people smugglers, is deported.

Judge Mairs said the attack happened at about 21:00 GMT on 17 March 2024.

He described how Albashir grabbed the woman from behind in a stranglehold and stabbed her as many as 30 times with the glass in his other hand.

One witness described the attack as "frenzied" and another "thought he was trying to kill her".

The judge said "it is by good fortune alone that [the woman] escaped with relatively minor injuries", but noted that the victim's mental scars are "profound and lifelong".

The judge said he was also worried about concerns raised about the defendant's s*xual conduct – including a s*xual assault in a hotel where he was staying in Birmingham and another involving a member of staff while detained in hospital.

He also exposed himself to a doctor, Judge Mairs said.

The judge told the defendant: "It is of significance you chose to attack a lone female", adding: "The common sense conclusion is that there was a s*xual element to the attack."

In a personal statement, the victim, who is now 32, said her physical injuries may have been relatively minor but "my mental injuries are scars that will stay with me forever and will always affect me".

She said walking past the location of the attack "fills me with panic and dread", and described how the attack has "completely changed the way I live my life".

Judge Mairs explained how the defendant told doctors he was born and lived in Sudan until he was 25 and then travelled via Libya and Italy to France, where he spent some time in a mental hospital and was eventually refused asylum.

The judge said Albashir told medical staff he arrived in the UK from Calais having "used the services of people smugglers" and lived in Luton, Coventry and Birmingham before ending up in a hostel in Barrow-in-Furness.

He ended up in Leeds when he was thrown off a Manchester to York train for having no ticket, the court heard.

Two days before the attack in Headingley, Albashir was stopped by police in the area after he was found with his trousers round his ankles and in a "trance-like state", but he was released with no action taken.

Consultant forensic psychiatrist Lucy Bacon told the court that all doctors agree that Albashir has catatonic schizophrenia.

A ‘pervert’ who attempted to engage in s*xual activity and exploit who he thought was a white 12-year-old girl, but was in fact a decoy, has been sentenced to six years in prison, given a 10-year S*xual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the S*x Offenders Register indefinitely following his appearance at Hull Crown Court

Mohammed Ahmed, 27-years-old, of Park Grove in Hull was found guilty following a week-long trial at Hull Crown Court that concluded on Friday, 10 July 2026 to attempting to engage in s*xual communications with a child and attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in s*xual activity.

Detectives from our Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) received a referral from colleagues in the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit to state that communication had commenced between Ahmed and who he believed to be a12-year-old girl, but was in fact a decoy, in June 2024.

Ahmed was sending s*xual messages to the decoy profile, asking her to be his girlfriend and telling her that when they meet, he will take her somewhere private in his car.

Ahmed was subsequently arrested at his home address in July 2024 on suspicion of engaging in s*xual communications with a child, and several mobile phones were seized, including the mobile phones used to engage with the decoy, to be forensically examined.

A s*x predator has been jailed for eight years after ra**ng a homeless woman while she slept in a Southend car park she had made her makeshift home.

Detectives launched an investigation last year after a woman in her 50s reported being assaulted by a man she did not known in Great Eastern Avenue, Southend, on August 23 in 2025.

The woman told officers her attacker said his name was 'Akky'. Enquiries in the Southend area allowed officers to establish that this was Abdul Omer.

The 31-year-old was found to be living at an address on St Fabian's Drive in Chelmsford. The city's neighbourhood policing team were informed and, after he was spotted by the Chelmsford City Council CCTV team, he was arrested the next day.

Omer was subsequently charged with r**e, which he admitted at Basildon Crown Court in January.

He was sentenced on Wednesday (August 26) to eight years behind bars with a further four on licence.

A man from Neath Port Talbot has been handed an extended sentence after he was found guilty of several s*xual offences.

24-year-old Talvinder Atwal, from Briton Ferry, was found guilty in July of multiple r**es and s*xual assaults of a woman. He was also found guilty of intentional strangulation in relation to the same victim.

In total, Atwal, who had pleaded not guilty to all charges, was found guilty of two counts of r**e, one count of assault by pe*******on, one count of intentional strangulation, two counts of s*xual assault on a female and one count of engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour.

He has been handed an extended 17-year prison sentence.

A man who strangled and r**ed a woman in Crewe has been jailed.

Fikadu Yemane was sentenced to eight years imprisonment at Chester Crown Court on Thursday 27 August following a ten-day trial, in which he was found guilty of one count of r**e and intentional strangulation.

Yemane, who is of Castleton Walk, Manchester, but originally from Eritrea, was also ordered to sign on to the S*x Offender’s Register indefinitely.

A violent bully has been jailed for ra**ng a 16-year-old girl, as well as brutally assaulting her during a period of six weeks last year.

Callan Hennessey (24/12/03), of Ferndene Road, Manchester, has been jailed for nine-and-a-half-years after pleading guilty to assault, strangulation, the creation of indecent images, and a further assault.

He was found guilty of one count of r**e.

He received his sentence today (27 August) at Manchester Crown Court.

The investigation began in April 2025, when a relative of the victim of Hennessey contacted the police, after the girl, then 16, had attended hospital with injuries including two black eyes, bleeding to her ear, a swollen jaw and other abrasions to her head and face.

Following extensive enquiries over the following weeks, which also saw Hennessey arrested, officers found that he had assaulted and r**ed the girl, with her injuries drawing the attention of family members.

When officers attended an address on 8 April 2025, officers discovered bedsheets covered in his victim’s blood.

Hennessey was also seen to have himself had blood on him by a relative following the incident.

Hennessey plead guilty to assault and strangulation, while being found guilty of r**e following a trial.

The r**e occurred several weeks before the assault in April.

He will also now be subject to an indefinite restraining order and will be placed on the s*x offender's register for life.
