We provide Supported Housing, wellbeing support, and youth services for children and young people. We believe that every person is hugely valuable and ensure that our services are welcoming to people of all faiths or none. We offer young people the space they need to feel secure, respected, heard and valued and we stand up for young people, speaking out on issues that affect their lives. We are pa

Lighthouse Training Programme 💡

This is Gemma, who recently graduated from our Lighthouse Training Programme! Gemma has spent time training on our main reception with Vasti, our Customer Service Coordinator, gaining valuable work experience.

We held a graduation ceremony for our Lighthouse graduates where residents and staff gathered to congratulate the residents who had successfully completed the programme.

A massive congratulations to those who took part! 🎉

It has been one week since joined in with 🎉 in the lead up to JoyFest, our staff team had been planning different ways in which they could go out and bless the city.

Watch to see what our Resource and Comms team got up to! They had lots of fun surprising frontline services with delicious cakes from locally sourced 🍰

The responses to the cakes were really touching, with many showing their surprise at receiving thanks and appreciation for their work, with one person commenting ‘we don’t often hear that’.

To sum up the morning, ‘it is a blessing to be a blessing’!

It's Volunteers week and we are shining a light on Tim, a volunteer in our garden projects! 🪴

Since 2021, Tim has become a fundamental part of the volunteer garden crew.

“When Tim arrived, we were just setting up the Exwick Forest School space in collaboration with Exwick Community Church,” explains Sam Thomas, YMCA Exeter Community Projects Manager. “Tim was a huge help across the whole project, especially leading the build on a living roof timber structure.”

“I would be lost without him,” continues Sam. “At St Davids Hill our 31-bed home for young people who have come out of homelessness he led the installation of a polytunnel in our community garden and started a proper compost system and a seasonal planting succession plan.”

From all of us at YMCA Exeter, we’re so thankful for Tim’s consistent support and knowledge sharing. You can read more about Tim's story here: https://www.ymcaexeter.org.uk/meet-tim-a-gardening-legend/

Our staff team loved being involved with today!

Over the course of the morning, we:
🍰 delivered amazing locally sourced cakes to essential services in Exeter
🚐 handed out goody bags filled with treats and refreshments for delivery drivers in Exeter
🍪 dropped off luxury biscuits to local housing providers
🛍️ our residents and staff in Paignton packed gift bags and handed them to 100 of their neighbours
🔩 visited our regular supply companies to gift them with sweet treats
🍫 supplied heaps of chocolate to staff and students at our local college

We have loved joining JoyFest by serving our local area with acts of kindness ❤️

📩 In our May newsletter we share some reflections from Magnus, who used to live at YMCA Exeter, on his recent trip to a land cooperative project thanks to a grant from South West YMCA Trust Fund.

Magnus returns to YMCA Exeter every week as a volunteer to teach green woodwork skills to residents, and the trip gave him the opportunity to spend time developing his crafting skills.

Pictured are some of the amazing crafts they got to create, including shrink pots and rush hand brooms.

Sam, our Community Projects manager had a fantastic time with Devon Rural Skills Trust at the Devon County Show over the weekend! The team demonstrated pole lathe turning and green wood working.

Sam described the experience as "lovely to chat to some of the previous generation of crafts people and inspire the next!"
