That Hidden Promise

Always has been, always will be.

On 20 August, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh (Mo Chara) of KNEECAP returns to court after being charged with a terrorism offence over political chants at a London show. Hundreds turned out in support at his first hearing — turning the court steps into a space of solidarity, resistance, and music.⁠ ⁠ When governments silence dissent, artistic freedom is often the first to go. Cultural resistance has always been — and remains — essential.⁠ ⁠ As a climate charity, we know climate justice is connected to the right to protest, freedom of expression, and cultural freedom. Musicians should be free to speak truth to power — without fear.⁠ ⁠ #NOMUSICONADEADPLANET⁠

Being at Victorious festival yesterday, I was looking forward to seeing The Mary Wallapers. To see them silenced for supporting Palestine and it's ongoing persecution and on the day a famine was officially declared in Gaza was an appalling assault on free speech and basic humanity, in the face of that devastating ongoing assault.
