⭐ Volvo XC60 2019 ⭐

This vehicle arrived with a few faults.

Soot sensor internal electrical failure ❌
EPB Inoperative ❌

The fault codes once again can be misleading. Many would have tried a rear electric caliper and hoped for the best.

Wiring loom for EPB OSR corroded/broken ❌

We identified another issue with the wiring for the rear height sensors for the suspension and rectified this also .

2 wiring repairs ✅
Replacement soot sensor ✅

Ready for the road ✅

I'm now signed off with traumatic stress for the foreseeable.

⭐ Ford Focus 2019 (38,000 miles!) ⭐

Here we have a ford focus 1.0 ecoboost with an automatic gearbox.

The vehicle came in with the EML and sluggish acceleration.

The faults showed a high circuit on the intake air temperature sensor.

This engine is fitted with 2 air inlet temperature sensors. One being part of the manifold pressure sensor and the other a standalone sensor in the pipework leading up to the air-box.

The data showed a voltage of around 4.8-5V which also defaulted to -40°C on the intake air temperature sensor at the air-box (sensor 1), on the data sheets.

You wouldn't expect a wiring fault on a vehicle with so little miles on it, however there was.

After strip down we noticed that the partial engine wiring loom which is bracketed at the front of the automatic gearbox, showed a broken wire.

No corrosion ❌
No water ingress ❌

A clear break ❌

Attaching a wiring loom to the gearbox, which moves and virbates on the gearbox mount, without a single millimetre of spare cable, ludicrous 🤦🏻

I'd say at some point, the wiring was guaranteed to break.

We repaired the wiring loom. Re-routed so this would happen again and the vehicle is ready for the road ✅

⭐ Peugeot/Citroen/DS/Vauxhall ⭐

A common issue with these vehicles is something called the BPGA. The battery and supplies protection management unit.

For a failing BPGA, the symptoms are as follows 👇🏻

Electrical system fault warning on dash ❌

Charging system fault on dash ❌

Battery drain ❌

Folding mirrors intermittent ❌

Central locking intermittent ❌

No crank when turning the key ❌

There is an internal relay that either gets stuck closed (no crank) or sticks open (battery drain).

I have seen vehicles arrive with new batteries. New alternators and new engine fuse boxes and still present exactly the same symptoms.

It's time Stellantis modified these BPGA units and instead of having an internal relay which is resin set to the board, have an interchangeable external relay which is far more cost effective for the customer.
