Why do regular roof inspections matter?

For historic buildings like Dundee Cathedral, small defects can quickly become major problems. A missing slate, damaged flashing or unnoticed water ingress may lead to costly repairs and long-term structural deterioration.

Regular inspections help identify issues early, allowing building owners to take action before minor defects become serious concerns.

During our recent project at Dundee Cathedral, our team used rope access techniques to safely inspect difficult-to-reach areas while preserving the integrity of this historic structure.

Quality maintenance starts with prevention. The earlier a problem is identified, the easier and more cost-effective it is to resolve.

We replaced a rotten fascia board: the old board was removed, a new painted fascia was fitted and secured, and a broken stop end was replaced. A 2mm underlay was installed between the board and the gutter, a top coat was applied to the new fascia, and a gap in the stonework was filled with white CT1. All work was completed with proper care and full safety.

Downpipe replacement: Upon inspection of the downpipe bend a hole was found causing water to leak. We cleaned the area, applied a single layer of CT-1 over the hole, and wrapped the pipe with Denso tape to ensure no leakage. All work was completed with proper care and full safety. Additional photos provided.

When work is carried out on your property, you deserve more than just a finished job.

You deserve to know the work has been done properly, the area has been left clean and safe, and your home has been respected.

Today, ridge tiles were carefully removed, cleaned and reinstalled using a lime cement sand mortar mix, with attention to both durability and appearance.

The final details matter too. Cleaning off mortar marks, removing dust and leaving a neat finish may seem small, but these are often the things you notice most when the work is complete.

Damaged slates were repaired where identified.

Once the roofing work was complete, every gutter was cleaned, scaffolding lifts were cleared from top to bottom, windowsills were cleaned, and the ground around the building was left tidy.

We were also delighted to receive a visit from our Director, Blanka 🤩, who joined us on the scaffolding and shared a few ideas on how we can work even more efficiently.

At the end of the day, the rest of the team arrived to lend a hand. A perfect example of the teamwork at the core of HiSolution.
