A night for Rabbie. For a third year running, Newbarns and a clutch of wayward pals mark the end of January and Scotland’s fair bard with convivial brews made with company.

Friends arrive from far and wide: Scots returning home to mash and meddle, natives returning over borders to brew.

Head Brewer Peter arrived to join in creating a Scottish-style lager—raw wheat and flaked barley lending a clean, crisp finish, as bright as field air.
Robin of headed up from the far south, mashing in for a juicy NZ hazy IPA with Scottish barley—everything kept as close to the farm as possible.
A day in Yorkshire/Scot ends in a heritage-method, barrel-fermented, middle ground between the brewing heritages of Edinburgh and Yorkshire: Scotch ales, Stingos and Old Auld ales—those city great liquid offerings —recalled and remade.

Then a timely lament for old friends of past gatherings: a many-handed collaboration with Scottish pals— —each bringing a note of historic Scottish brewing to imagine a modern Scottish IPA recipe, thirsty deoch for the jokers.

And for good measure: 60/- “Darklight” on cask, as to be expect ed in any respectable Fountainbridge adjacent Edinburgh Public House.

A new IPA is now pouring on draught, dropped long standing micro-brewer via the coastlines of Granton and South Queensferry. A New England IPA, “Silence Is The Water In Which They Swim”, their third and juiciest to date, we’d say their best yet.

After some experimental dry hopping and some chunky whirlpool activity this beer is settling itself nicely with fruit and bitter, demanding salty seafood bites along side a quiet reflective January pint, reminiscing of Spring upcoming.
