Stephen bought his Gordon kilt from us at the beginning of the year and we shipped it to his home address in America. He is planning to return to our Edinburgh store this summer to get his lovely wife a kilt of her own!

This Pride Month, we’re reflecting on the shared history between tartan, individuality, and self-expression.

For centuries, tartan has symbolised identity, belonging, rebellion, and heritage. Not too long ago, Highland dress itself was seen as political and unconventional - a reminder that fashion has always carried meaning beyond clothing alone.

For LGBTQ+ communities, style became a language: a way to challenge expectations, express identity openly, and reclaim visibility. From punk fashion to q***r club culture, tartan and kilts were continually reimagined by people refusing to fit into rigid definitions of masculinity, femininity, and tradition.
