People Urged To always Clean Water Bottle To Avoid Illness.

While they are useful items and help keep plastic use down, some problems can arise with them if people aren't careful.
A number of Doctors and health experts have urged individuals to avoid falling into a bad habit, as it might make them ill in the long run.
People have been urged to make sure they wash their water bottle thoroughly after every use and to make sure it's air-dried properly, too.
Dr Sarah Ndungu, explains: "Water bottles can harbour bacteria in hard to reach areas so each time you drink from the bottle, bacteria from your mouth transfer into the container and moisture provides the perfect breeding ground for them.
"Even if the water looks clear and odourless, that doesn’t mean it is clean.
"I would encourage washing reusable bottles daily with warm soapy water. Allow the bottle to fully air-dry rather than sealing it while still damp, as moisture encourages bacterial growth."
Fitness Consultant Stephen Champion concurs, sharing: "Reusable bottles are great for cutting down on plastic waste, but they can easily collect bacteria if they’re not cleaned properly.
"Moisture, warmth, and any leftover drops of water or saliva create the perfect environment for germs such as E. coli and Staphylococcus to grow — especially around the mouthpiece and lid."
She advises paying extra attention to the lid, straw, and any rubber seals of the bottles as these areas trap moisture and residue.
"Regular cleaning keeps your bottle fresh and helps prevent unpleasant smells, mould, and potential stomach upsets.
"A quick wash each day is a simple way to protect your health while staying hydrated."
Alongside that, Dr Sarah Ndungu shares: "Since water bottles are often stored at room temperature this allows microbes to grow and replicate easily.
"Either hand washing or dishwashing your reusable bottles can reduce microbe contamination by approximately 90% compared to no washing at all.
"Effective cleaning methods can include dishwashing with detergent at a high temperature, handwashing with soap and water or even disinfecting with chemicals but dishwashing generally provides the most consistent reduction in microbes."
Finally, Dr Sarah Ndungu, says that water bottles can effectively become a "small-scale incubator for germs" if not washed regularly.
She warns: "While it is not uncommon to see germs such as Streptococcus and Staphylococcus building up, the bigger concern is the transfer of bacteria like E. coli.
"This type of bacteria can come straight from your hands, particularly if you don’t wash your hands properly, and transfer onto your bottle with repeated handling.
Therefore, she advises: “That’s why it’s important to wash your reusable water bottle daily.
"You should always use hot, soapy water, as cold water won't get rid of the 'biofilms’, the slimy layer of bacteria that forms on the inner surface and provides a perfect environment for more bacteria to grow.
“Equally, it’s wise to use a brush to scrub lids, caps, and screw top regions, as bacteria love to hide in these areas.
"On top of that, you should air dry your bottle completely before putting the lid back on.”

Swinney Says Scottish Government Will Sponsor Visas For Foreign Care Workers.

John Swinney has said the Scottish government will help hundreds of overseas care workers stay in the UK, as he attacked Westminster for its rising hostility to immigrants.
The first minister said it was unfair Scotland’s older people had to “pay the price for Westminster’s prejudice”, and that his devolved government would sponsor visa applications for workers needed to staff care homes, at a cost of about £500,000.
Swinney described the UK government’s decision to greatly restrict access to visas for those jobs, in an effort to respond to rising tensions over mass migration, as deeply damaging.
“Thousands of care workers here in the UK entirely legally have been left high and dry, unable to work, while care homes are crying out for staff,” he told the Scottish National party’s annual conference in Aberdeen. “In what world does that make any sense?”
Swinney told delegates the measure was further evidence Scotland’s interests were being damaged by continued membership of the UK, as he confirmed he would make a fresh push for independence central to Scottish parliament elections next year.
Sketching out some of the key themes for that election campaign, he said Scotland could thrive with “a golden combination” of independence, rejoining the EU and the economic advantages from Scotland’s “vast, low-cost, renewable energy”.
