This country has a long and proud history of public protest. The point of protesting is fundamentally about publicly expressing dissent, demanding change, and holding power to account.

The effectiveness of protests are mainly due to their cumulative impact.

Single, one-off demonstrations rarely produce meaningful or lasting change. Power structures, governments, and institutions tend to absorb or ignore isolated events, but persistent pressure builds momentum, visibility, and real leverage.

THAT is why Starmer’s Labour has passed this amendment. It’s a direct assault on the key avenue outside the voting system for communicating the need for change left open to ordinary, otherwise powerless people to hold power to account.
