Kin Works Collective Voices - Thank You! Over the past few weeks we’ve heard from so many of you about how much parents and carers are carrying, and we’ve seen how powerful it can be when those experiences are shared out loud.

Collective Voices was created to make space for honest conversations about raising a family in Scotland right now. The realities behind the routines, the joy, the pressure, the juggling, the isolation, the resilience.

Kin Works is a grassroots community of working parents based in Leith. We meet monthly in person, creating space for connection, conversation and solidarity. If you’re navigating this season and need community around you, we’d love you to join us.

Thank you for trusting us with your stories and for being part of this collective conversation.

Kin Works Collective Voices - Part 4
More stories. More about what isn’t working.
The rush to secure childcare before your baby arrives.
The pressure to plan your return while still recovering.
Policies that don’t always match real life.
Shared leave that isn’t always affordable.
Flexibility that isn’t guaranteed.
Support that can feel out of reach.
The relentlessness of it all.
But people are starting to speak up. To question. To share.
Kin Works is proud to be a part of that.
A space for honesty and shared experiences.
This is Collective Voices. Real life, real stories.

Kin Works Collective Voices - Part 3
More stories. More of the reality behind ā€œreturning to work.ā€
It’s not just logistics - it’s what you’re returning to. Careers reshaped, priorities shifted, identities evolving.
There’s the mental load - constant planning, covering childcare gaps, using annual leave for sick days.
There’s the financial balancing act - working out if more hours actually pay off.
And there’s the identity shift - who you were before, and who you are now.
At Kin Works, these conversations are out in the open. Shared honestly, met with understanding.
This is Collective Voices. Real life, as it’s happening.

Come walk with us 🌿

On World Maternal Mental Health Day - Wednesday 6th May - we’re teaming up with Edinburgh Buggy Walks and Dr Bell’s Family Centre for a buggy walk and picnic.

We’re meeting at the community notice board on Leith Links (what3words: loved.movie.club) at 2pm and heading out together at a relaxed pace.

Walking together and being outdoors can make such a difference to how we feel. This is about being with others, shining a light on maternal mental health, and reminding ourselves that we’re not alone.

After the walk, we’ll gather for a picnic so bring a blanket and some snacks and stay as long as you like. We’ll be based by the play park.

Everyone is welcome, whether you’re coming for company, conversation, or just to get out of the house. It’s free to join and you can register on the Kin Collective eventbrite.

Kin Works Collective Voices - Part 2

More stories. More versions of what it’s like raising a family in Scotland right now. Behind the day-to-day, maternity and paternity pay, shared parental leave, trying to find a nursery place before your baby is even born… there’s a lot being carried. Work. Childcare. Money. Identity. The juggle of holding it all together. These are the kinds of conversations that come up at Kin Works all the time. Honest, unfiltered, and often frustrated. The kind that don’t always have space elsewhere. Being part of Kin Works brings validation and understanding, and we’re using our platform to share these everyday realities more widely. This is Collective Voices. Real stories from real families.

Kin Works Collective Voices - Your experiences of raising a family in Scotland. Kin Works is a Leith-based grassroots group of working parents. Demanding better support for families across Scotland. We meet every month, with our little ones in tow. Discussing the reality of work + family life. The emotional, the financial, the daily juggle. What started as a support group… has become something bigger. A collective ready to push for change. These are our stories. From real families, raising children in Scotland, right now. Because parents are too busy doing it all… to always speak out. So we’re raising our voices together. This 2026 Scottish Election, we’re calling for change. These are our Collective Voices.

April Sling Meet: Stretchy Wraps & Early Options

Come and chat all things babywearing at our relaxed monthly Sling Meet, with plenty of time to try different slings and build your confidence.

Monday 27th April
10.30 - 12.00

This month we’re focusing on stretchy wraps (including the Baby Box wrap and pre-tied options like the Close Caboo), perfect for newborns in the fourth trimester (around 0–3 months) and beyond.

Soft, flexible and easy to pre-tie, these slings are ideal for keeping your baby close while allowing you to take them in and out without retying.

In this small group workshop, we’ll cover:
• Why carrying matters in the fourth trimester
• Safe positioning for newborns
• How to tie and use a stretchy wrap (with hands-on support)

We’ll have a range of slings to try, be on hand to support you and your wee one, and you’re welcome to practise with our weighted demo dolls too. if

A few things to note:
This session won’t include fit checks for non-stretchy carriers, breastfeeding in a stretchy, world-facing positions, or carrying multiples.

Spaces are limited to keep the session supportive and hands-on šŸ’› booking essential - sign up via our eventbrite / link in bio
