Small Business Tip 4: Phishing.

This is where criminals send emails with links to bad websites or asking you to confirm sensetivr details (like banking credentials)

- Ensure staff do not browse the Web or open emails from an account with Administrator privelages.

- Scan for Malware (see Tip 2) and change passwords as soon as you suspect a breach (see Tip 3).

- Think twice about emails - does the logo look right? Is the email address correct or just looking to mimic? How is the spelling and grammar?

Small Business Tip 3: Use Passwords Correctly.

- Make sure you are not using simple, basic passwords like "qwerty" or a pet's name.

- Ensure all business devices require a password to boot.

- Ensure you change the default password on devices such as routers and other hardware.

- Use Two Factor Authentication when it is an option.

Small Business Tip 2: Protect against Malware.

- Always ensure your software patches/updates are applied as soon as possible.

- Ensure you are running a firewall to protect your local network.

- Use a quality anti virus on all devices.

- Seriously consider restricting access to USB/SD Card or other sockets on work devices.

Small Business Tip 1 - Backup your Data.

- Make this part of your regular routine.

- Ensure that the backup device is not connected permanently to your main system, either physically or through your network.

- Consider the use of a cloud storage location for ease of access and security.

All of these simple steps will help protect against the effects of theft, fire, hardware failure and ransome ware
