The NFU North East and The Woodland Trust are currently running “The Big Farm Tree Planting” project which has 500 packs of 10 native trees, complete with stakes and guards, to offer completely free of charge to NFU members.
The scheme aims to give farmers the chance to improve the environmental value of their farms by collectively planting 5,000 native trees, either as single trees in the landscape or small plantings.
The packs are available on a first come first served basis for collection from four locations across the region. For more information and to register visit https://www.nfuonline.com/about-us/our-offices/north-east/north-east-must-read/support-the-big-farm-tree-planting/ .

With the planned reductions to BPS and the forthcoming introduction of the Environmental Land Management Scheme we would encourage all rural businesses to consider entering into a Countryside Stewardship scheme during this transition period.
Countryside Stewardship will provide an additional income stream to deliver environmental benefits on your land. In the majority of cases a well designed scheme can be integrated into current farming policy to maximise income generation, especially by utilising those difficult to farm and marginal field areas. Attractive capital grants are also offered where environmental targets can be achieved.
The application period for Countryside Stewardship Schemes commencing 1st January 2022 is expected to open shortly. If you require any help or advice in relation to Countryside Stewardship please contact Tom Julian to discuss (01377 253456 / [email protected]).
