Don Catchment Rivers Trust is committed to conserving, protecting, rehabilitating and improving the rivers in the River Don catchment area.

Don Catchment Rivers Trust has been established to help protect and restore the rivers and streams in the River Don catchment area, this includes not just the River Don but also the River Dearne, River Rother and other rivers such as the Sheaf, Went, Ea Beck and many others. Our rivers are a valuable asset which tell the story of our culture and heritage. They are important for people, wildlife and the local economy, and form an integral part of our landscape.

Happy Volunteer Week! We want to say a big thank you to each and every volunteer that has come out to site with us to help protect and restore our rivers. Volunteering is a massive part of our Rivers Trust and without each of you we wouldn't be where we are now.

In recent years, volunteers have contributed to wetland restoration, litter picking, river access improvements, invasive species surveys and management, Riverfly monitoring, water quality monitoring, leaky dam building, electrofishing, fish pass inspection and maintenance, event support and much more!

We are grateful for you everyday and are always welcoming new volunteers to get stuck in!

Last week our volunteers planted plug plants around the new pond we created at Sprotbrough Ings. This will help boost plant biodiversity as they spread over the coming years. One exciting addition is True Fox-sedge, a vulnerable species with historic records on the site β€” reintroducing it supports a struggling population. This is the full list of plants we planted on the site: Ladies' Smock, Gipsywort, Purple Loosestrife, Lesser Spearwort, Flag Iris, Water Forget-me-not, True Fox-sedge, Cowslip, Clustered Bellflower, Oxeye Daisy, Meadow Buttercup, Betony.
