Sam and Olivia cleaned up along Macon Way over the weekend. Just take a look at how some people think it is okay to leave a place. Bear in mind - given that 49% of adults admit to dropping litter - that these may be people that you or I know. It is so depressing.

Thank you SO so much.

For about the millionth time, we cleaned up around the old baths on Flag Lane. Double figures bags of rubbish and cans. Sadly, it is the first time that we have had to remove racist graffiti. As always, we rely on wildlife to lift our spirits - here, in the form of a new, perfect Red Admiral (it's a shame that you can't hear the tinkling, happy song of the goldfinch).

It was serendipitous that we alighted on the area on the same day that the Environment Agency turned up to remove three trolleys, a mattress, a toy bike and various other detritus from Valley Brook. What chance that the mallards will bring up their family here for us all to delight in?

Thank you to Pat and Shelagh for their help and company and to The Earl of Chester for providing teas and coffees afterwards.

Karen was out on Friday, too, completing a circle that took in Hickory's and Davenport Avenue.

On Saturday, Hiwa filled some bags cleaning up in Wistaston.

Nigel was also out over the weekend, keeping his patch around Bradfield Road and Minshull New Road s***k and span.

The green bag is the natural companion of the ill-placed or seldom-emptied black bin.

Thank you, kind people.

Of course, it doesn't matter how many bins there are if they are full. I noticed while watching the Dakota fly over on Sunday that this was the case on the flagship "Southern Gateway Project". When I arrived today, the amount of litter had increased. Two Council employees were emptying the bins but there were no plans to litter pick. The chap who should do that is on holiday. Mmm. Now, the seating areas on the planters have litter-concealment areas built in beneath the seating itself. Litter can be stuffed between the slats on the benches. It is almost as if they were designed with lazy litter louts in mind. The Council litter pickers will hate them and they will slow them down. Please don't make the same mistakes on the next multi-million pound project.

On the plus side - and very much offsetting the annoyance of the badly-designed benches - the wild flower area is beautiful and teeming with insects. Please, learn from this and do repeat on the next multi-million pound project. It will need management, of course, but it is a joy to see bees, hoverflies, butterflies, etc. here and it will benefit us all.

Aurora was out during the week in McLaren Park - "When I encountered the north east corner of McLaren park completely covered in Rubbish... It seems it's now (the) trend to throw birthday parties in the park and at the same time throw the empties on the ground, for the wind to sweep them away ...... Speechless!"

This park was upgraded recently. Picnic benches and bins were added. Of course, if you make somewhere more inviting, more people will come. Is there a 'settling down' period of a season or two when the volume of litter is monitored so that adjustments can be made?

Thank you, Aurora.

Nantwichnews Not the most exciting post in the world… but definitely an important one 🐾

We are desperately in need of towels of all sizes for the animals. With our washing machine currently broken, our towel cupboard is looking very bare.

If you have any old or spare towels you no longer need, we would be incredibly grateful for donations. Every towel helps keep the animals warm, clean, and comfortable ❤️

Thank you so much for your support — it really does make a difference.
