🚲 Benji's Journey

Benji joined us many years ago with a real passion for bikes and a desire to learn more about cycle maintenance.

While he already had some basic skills, building confidence and consistency sometimes took extra time and practice. Through patience, hands-on learning, and his own determination, Benji has developed into a valued and skilled member of the workshop.

Today, Benji can:

🔧 Change an inner tube safely and independently
🔧 Strip down bikes with accuracy and care
🔧 Support and encourage others in the workshop
🔧 Tackle tasks repeatedly until he has mastered them

Benji's journey shows that progress isn't always about speed—it's about perseverance, opportunity, and believing in your ability to learn and grow.

We're incredibly proud of everything he has achieved and the positive example he sets every day. 💙

This Learning Disability Week, we're celebrating the achievements, talents, and dedication of two amazing volunteers who make a real difference in our community.

Over the coming days, we'll be sharing their individual stories—highlighting their journeys, the skills they've developed, the challenges they've overcome, and the positive impact they have on those around them.

We hope their experiences inspire others and showcase what can be achieved when people are given the opportunity to thrive.

Before the course starts, make sure their bike is:

✅ Safe and in good working order
✅ Ready to ride with confidence

If your child's bike needs attention, we can help. We offer reconditioned bikes for sale, as well as bike safety checks and repairs to ensure everything is roadworthy and ready for Bikeability.

Please don't leave it until the last minute – giving us plenty of notice means we can help get your child ready in time.

🚴 Well, that's another Volunteers' Week completed!

🚲 This week, we're switching gears—literally!

It's National Bike Week, and we're celebrating everything on two wheels. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist, a daily commuter, or simply enjoy a leisurely ride through the park, there's no better time to embrace the freedom, fun, and fitness that cycling brings.

Throughout the week, we'll be sharing bike-themed posts, cycling tips, workshop highlights, and stories from our cycling community.

So grab your helmet, pump up those tyres, and join us as we celebrate all things cycling!

Volunteers' Week - Celebrating Les

Les came to Community Recycle Cycles through a CVS placement. He enjoyed it that much that he stayed after the placement. Les has completed many jobs here at Community Recycle Cycles, fixing bikes, sorting out parts from bikes ready for reuse, looking for stock for us to use, and he's the boss at stock control. He makes sure that we don't run low on inner tubes or chains and makes sure we have parts that we might need. If we have a bike that needs a certain make, he will find the part.

Les went and completed his Cytech 2, so he is one of our mechanics. Over the last 2 years, under Annette's direction, Les has been our Assistant Manager, overseeing the day-to-day running of the shop and keeping us ticking over.

When Annette retired, Les stepped forward to become Shop Manager, keeping us running as well as before.

Volunteers' Week - Pete C

Pete C has been part of the Community Recycle Cycles family for years — long before he ever joined the workshop team. As a regular customer, he would drop in to browse our ever-changing selection of second-hand bikes, hunt for hidden gems, and pick up the perfect parts for whichever vintage build he was restoring at the time.

That curiosity, passion and hands-on love for bike restoration eventually led him from the shop floor to the workshop bench. Today, Pete brings that same enthusiasm and deep knowledge to every bike he works on — especially the classic and character-rich machines he’s always been drawn to.

His journey from loyal customer to skilled mechanic is exactly what Community Recycle Cycles is all about: giving bikes a second life, supporting riders who care about craftsmanship, and building a community where passion turns into expertise.
