The Building Control team has been working closely with the Highways Team, and the current owners of the old Steam Nightclub building on the High Street following reports of falling coping stones.
Together, we’ve assessed the structural integrity of the building and taken steps to make sure the right remedial works are carried out, all to protect the public highway and keep everyone safe.

Our Building Control team responded to a report of an unauthorised construction on top of a building in Crewe town centre. On inspection, we discovered the works posed a serious safety risk due to inadequate structural support. If we hadn’t investigated, the situation could have led to significant danger to the public. A Section 78 Notice was served, and we worked with the property owner to ensure the unsafe structure was removed.
Remember: if you’re planning structural work like this, Building Regulations will apply. Always get the appropriate permissions in place so we can ensure the work meets safety standards and is fully compliant from the start. Public safety is our top priority.
