This Door was forcefully opend by the authorities,there was a person trapped inside due to the doors not working properly

A common issue that my clients are facing is that their keys are jamming in their night latch locks. This normally happens to locks on wooden doors and can occur with the regular key for the lock in question. There are two main causes for this issue and today I will shed some light on the matter.

The first issue is a change in weather conditions. Weather changes can cause wood doors to expand and contract and can result in the lock not connecting with the keep in the Door Frame correctly. A solution for this issue is to apply a sealant or paint to both the door and the frame. This with protect them and prevent moisture being absorbed by them both.

The second issue is wear and tear on the internal mechanism of the lock. A short and quick fix to allow you to open the door is to insert the key into the lock and then slide the key backward and forwards whilst doing this you should feel the notches within the lock moving and at some point the key will engage with the mechanism at this point turning the key will enable you to open the door. This solution as mentioned is a short term solution and as such will mean that you will need to replace the lock barrel as soon as possible.
