Last night the residents got together to watch England beat Croatia 4-2.

There was pizza, plenty of laughs, a bit of football-induced stress, and some good company.

When people come into recovery, life can be pretty full on. There are groups, one-to-ones, meetings, difficult conversations, and often consequences from the past that need to be faced and worked through. None of that is easy.

That’s why nights like this matter.

For a few hours, people got to switch off, have a laugh, enjoy the match and spend time together. It might not sound like much, but for people who have spent years isolated, disconnected, or caught up in addiction, these moments are important.

It’s often in simple evenings like this that people begin to feel part of something again. Not judged, not labelled, not defined by their past, just sharing a few laughs and enjoying the company around them. Learning how to have fun with out substances❤️

Good match. Good pizza. Good people. ⚽🍕❤️

90 days clean for Luke. 💙

Luke is probably the happiest moaner I’ve ever met😂😂

It honestly feels like he’s always been here. He’s become part of the furniture and it’s hard to remember a time when he wasn’t winding someone up, having a laugh, or finding something to moan about😂😂

What has impressed us most is his willingness to take on suggestions. He hasn’t tried to do it his way. He’s listened, got involved, thrown himself into the programme, and he’s now reaping the rewards of that.

Recovery isn’t complicated, but it does require people to be open-minded enough to take direction and do things differently. Luke has done exactly that.

The smile on his face today (even when moaning 😂)the relationships he’s building, and the progress he’s making are proof of what’s possible when someone fully engages with the process.

90 days is a fantastic achievement, mate. Be proud of yourself. Keep doing what you’re doing and the best is still to come. ❤️

We’re delighted to announce a brand new collaboration with Exodus, Coventry. Exodus is a Community Interest Company supporting adults at all stages of recovery from substance misuse, providing both accommodation and ongoing care. We’re proud to be delivering monthly group drumming sessions as part of their programme.

When we launched Drum Happy CIC in 2020, our aim was to bring the therapeutic benefits of group drumming to vulnerable communities, including those affected by addiction, mental health challenges, and homelessness. Since then, we’ve seen just how powerful rhythm can be for everyone—and our mission has grown with that understanding.

Partnerships like this are a powerful reminder of why Drum Happy exists, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

We got out for a few hours and spent some time together in nature.

One of the things we see time and time again in addiction is isolation. Many people arrive at Exodus cut off from healthy relationships, disconnected from their community and spending more and more time alone. Recovery is about far more than stopping substances; it’s about learning how to reconnect with people, build healthy relationships and become part of something bigger than ourselves.

That is why social inclusion is so important. Sometimes it’s the simple things like a walk, a coffee, a conversation or spending time together outdoors that help people begin to feel connected again.

While we were out, we found a quiet spot and Mark completed his life story.

Anyone who has done a life story knows it takes courage. It means being honest about your past, your struggles, your mistakes and the things that have shaped you. It means allowing others to see the real you.

Recovery is built on honesty, connection and vulnerability, and Mark showed all three.

Thank you for trusting the group with your story, Mark. We are proud of you. ❤️

There is something powerful about watching a group of men who once ran from discomfort choose to step towards it instead.

No shortcuts. No excuses. Just turning up, putting the gloves on and doing the work.

Boxing has a way of exposing you. When you’re tired, frustrated or uncomfortable, you can’t hide from it. You have to learn to stay calm, stay focused and keep going. Those are exactly the same skills needed in recovery.

The guys don’t just leave Fight Academy fitter. They leave with a bit more confidence, a bit more self-belief and a reminder that they can do hard things.

Recovery isn’t about creating an easy life. It’s about becoming stronger than the things that once defeated you.

🥊❤️

Community.

People talk about community like it’s some fluffy word that belongs on posters and mission statements.

It isn’t.

Community is the bloke who annoys the life out of you but still makes you a brew when you’ve had a bad day.

It’s the person who tells you the truth when everyone else is telling you what you want to hear.

It’s sitting around a table talking absolute rubbish one minute and discussing the deepest parts of your life the next.

It’s knowing that if you disappear, somebody will notice.

In a world where people have hundreds of followers and very few real friends, community has become rare.

Most people don’t need more likes, more followers or more online friends. They need people who know them. Really know them. The good, the bad, the mess, the mistakes and the potential.

That’s why community is so important to us at Exodus.

We don’t see recovery as staff helping residents. We see it as people helping people.

Our staff, volunteers, residents, ex-residents, families and supporters are all part of the same community. There is no “us and them”. We laugh together, cry together, celebrate together and at times carry one another through difficult seasons.

Some of our staff have sat where our residents sit today. Some of our volunteers give back because someone once gave their time to them. Some of our residents will one day become the people helping the next newcomer through the door.

The funny thing is that community isn’t built by grand gestures.

It’s built by people consistently showing up.

Day after day.

Week after week.

Through the celebrations, the setbacks and everything in between.

Sometimes it’s built in the disagreements.

In the misunderstandings.

In the moments where people get frustrated with one another.

Because real community isn’t pretending that conflict doesn’t exist. It’s learning that conflict doesn’t have to mean rejection.

For many of us, that’s a lesson we’ve had to learn the hard way.

That an argument doesn’t mean you’re hated.

That a disagreement doesn’t mean you’re unwanted.

That making a mistake doesn’t make you unlovable.

Real community is being able to work things through, take accountability where needed, extend grace where it’s needed, and still sit around the same table afterwards.

That’s where trust is built.

That’s where belonging is built.

We’ve watched complete strangers walk through the doors and become family. We’ve watched walls come down, trust slowly build and lives begin to change.

Not because somebody had all the answers.

But because nobody had to face life on their own.

That’s community.

Not perfect people.

Just people showing up.

Day after day.

And that changes lives.

❤️

9 months ♥️♥️ A massive well done to Craig on reaching this milestone ❤️

Craig has had his challenges, but he has continued to show up, stay engaged, and keep moving forward. One thing we’ve really noticed is the way he helps the new lads coming into recovery. Whether it’s making them feel welcome, taking them to meetings, or simply being there for a chat, he’s always willing to lend a hand. He remembers what it was like walking through those doors for the first time, and that’s a quality that can’t be taught.

The man we see today is not the same man who first walked through our doors. There is still work to do, as there always is in recovery, but there is also plenty to be proud of.

Change is difficult. Letting go of the old and embracing the new is one of the hardest things any of us will ever do. The familiar, even when it’s harming us, can feel safer than the unknown.

Recovery asks us to step into places that feel uncomfortable. It asks us to be honest, to trust, to ask for help, and to become vulnerable. That can be scary. But vulnerability isn’t weakness, it’s where growth begins.

The truth is that some of the best things we will ever do for ourselves happen when we’re willing to lower our guard, be open, and allow others to walk alongside us. That’s where healing happens. That’s where real change begins.

The key now is to never let up on the programme of action. Recovery isn’t something we achieve and then forget about. It’s something we continue to nurture, protect, and invest in every single day.

Life is a gift, Craig. Treasure it. Keep doing the next right thing, keep helping others, turning up for yourself and keep moving forward one day at a time.

We’re proud of you, mate ❤️

🎉 90 Days Clean – Ricky 🎉

Ricky really didn’t want this post putting up, and to be honest, I understand his reasoning. In his mind, there are still things he’s not proud of, people he’s hurt, mistakes he’s made, and he feels those things shouldn’t be forgotten.

But that’s the thing about recovery. Celebrating progress doesn’t mean we ignore the past. It doesn’t mean we forget the people we’ve hurt or the consequences of our actions. It simply means we acknowledge that change is possible and that growth deserves to be recognised.

And Ricky, you have grown❤️

It has been an absolute pleasure having you with us. You’ve got a heart of gold and you genuinely think about other people. I’ve watched you show kindness, consideration and a willingness to keep turning up, even on the difficult days.

Ninety days isn’t the finish line. It’s not about being the finished article. It’s about laying a foundation, and you’ve done exactly that. The Ricky who walked through our doors 90 days ago is not the same Ricky we see today.

There is still work to do, as there is for all of us, but you should be proud of how far you’ve come.

Keep going. Keep growing. Keep trusting the process.

The best is yet to come. ❤️

A few days late, but a massive congratulations to Shaun on reaching 6 months clean and sober ❤️

If you’ve ever struggled with addiction, you’ll know that six months is about so much more than simply putting down a drink or a drug. It’s about showing up on the days when you don’t want to. It’s about facing yourself when running away feels easier. It’s about learning to sit with emotions, disappointments, fears, and frustrations without reaching for the thing that used to numb them.

For Shaun, this journey hasn’t been perfect. There have been difficult moments, times when he questioned himself, and even relapse along the way. But recovery isn’t about never falling down, it’s about getting back up again. Every time life knocked him down, he found the courage to stand back up and keep moving forward.

The Shaun who walked through the doors of Exodus six months ago is not the same Shaun we see today. There is more confidence, more honesty, more willingness to engage, and more belief that life can be different. None of this has come easy. It has been earned through perseverance, and a refusal to quit when things got tough.

Does this mean he’s the finished article? No. None of us are. Recovery is a lifelong journey of growth and change. But the foundation has been built, and that’s something nobody can take away from him. The hard work he’s put in today is creating opportunities that simply weren’t there six months ago.

Shaun, you should be proud of yourself. Not because you’ve been perfect, but because you stayed. You kept coming back. You kept pushing through when it would have been easier to walk away.

The best is yet to come, brother. ❤️
