The best candidates aren’t always on the market, but we can help you access them.

In today’s hiring landscape, one of the biggest misconceptions is that great talent is actively applying for roles.

The reality is that many of the strongest candidates are already employed and they're increasingly selective about making a move.

Here’s what we’re seeing in the market right now:

✔️ Job security matters more than ever
Following periods of redundancy and uncertainty, many professionals are choosing stability over change unless the opportunity is genuinely right.

✔️ Counteroffers are more common
Good people are being retained and often incentivised to stay.

✔️ Salary alone isn’t enough
Candidates are prioritising progression, culture, leadership quality, and flexibility over headline pay increases.

✔️ People are concerned about making the "wrong move"
With fewer, higher-impact moves being made, candidates are taking longer to decide and being more cautious overall.

So what does this mean for employers?

It means the best talent rarely comes from job boards alone. It comes from relationships, networks, and specialist insight into who is actually open to moving, even if they’re not actively looking.

Winberry specialises in permanent recruitment and connect the right people, to the right role, at the right time.

If you're hiring and need access to the right people for your business. We can help.

June is

Evidence show that one of the most powerful drivers of inclusion is Allyship.

In fact, having just one strong ally can help reduce the possibility of suicidal thoughts of LGBTQ+ people by 40%.

Having someone to actively listen and being able to signpost help is something we can all do.

Here are a few practical ways to build it into your workplace culture:

✔️ Listen to understand, not to respond
Pride Month is a reminder that lived experiences can be very different from your own.

✔️ Speak up when it matters
Allyship means challenging bias or inappropriate behaviour, even when it’s uncomfortable.

✔️ Make space for others
Ensure all voices are heard in meetings, decisions, and progression opportunities.

✔️ Support progression, not just presence
True inclusion is about creating equal access to growth and opportunity.

✔️ Lead by example all year round
Allyship isn’t a campaign, it’s consistent behaviour that shapes culture.

At Winberry, we believe strong, inclusive teams don’t just happen, they’re built intentionally through the way people are hired, supported, and developed.

Pride Month is a celebration but it’s also a reminder to keep showing up for each other, every day.

May was packed with May-jor milestones for Winberry and the wider Vester Group 🏆

One of the standout moments was seeing Dave recognised at the Wales Director of the Year Awards 2026 (Small Business), presented by IoD Wales. It's a fantastic achievement that reflects the ambition and vision driving the Group forward.

Across Vester Group, we also celebrated the acquisition of ThriveHRM Limited, strengthening the Group’s ability to deliver integrated people solutions across South Wales and beyond. As well as the launch of Lexbridge Group Ltd, our specialist legal recruitment and talent advisory business led by Nigel Goldsworthy, LLB(hons) FRSA.

At Winberry, we’ve continued building relationships with ambitious businesses and talented professionals across multiple sectors, helping companies secure permanent talent that will drive long-term growth.

This month also saw us attend the All-Energy Exhibition and Conference in Glasgow where we connected with businesses across the energy and sustainability sectors, strengthen relationships and continue expanding our network.

As always, a huge thank you to our clients, candidates and wider connections for keeping us so busy!

Last week, our Managing Director Dave Matthews was named winner of the Wales Director of the Year Awards 2026 (Small Business), one of the most respected leadership accolades presented by the Institute of Directors (IoD Wales).

The award follows a transformational period for NuStaff under his leadership following a successful management buyout in 2024. Since then, the business has experienced significant growth, alongside the launch of the Vester Group and the expansion of specialist recruitment and HR advisory services across the wider group structure.
