Extraordinary musical encounters for all.

Our mission is to bring artists and people together across the UK to experience extraordinary events that enrich lives.

It is with a mixture of sadness, pride and huge appreciation for everyone we have worked with, that we make this our last Sound UK post.

Thank you so much for supporting our projects and all the brilliant artists we have worked with over the years - we have loved every minute of it.

There are so many artists, partners, funders, participants, audiences, places, spaces and landscapes which have made this the phenomenal journey it has been. We cannot thank you all individually but know that you all live within us through everything you've shared.

Our adventures are not over, and we will continue to bring people together through extraordinary musical experiences as we each set off down our new pathways.

Our best wishes for a peaceful and music filled festive season,

Polly, Chloe, Jamie and the Sound UK team

Huge thanks to who was a massive part of our team for so long, and for all her support as Chair of our fantastic trustees

Venue touring and festivals have always been a key part of Sound UK’s programme.

Here we take a look back at a selection of the tours and diverse array of brilliant artists we have had the pleasure to work with over the last 25 years.

Polly Eldridge, Sound UK’s Director, says: “It was during my first job 30 years ago, working for Cheltenham Jazz Festival, that the love of bringing artist and audiences together struck. Since then, we’ve brought together 100s of artists and 1000s of people in clubs, village halls, and major concert halls. We’ve commissioned and created new collaborations and work from the ground-breaking east London Fertilizer Festival to P*e Wee Ellis’s Funk tour.”

Outdoor and site specific music, sound and light projects have been an important part of Sound UK’s artistic programme over the last 25 years.

Polly Eldridge, Sound UK's Director says:
“It started with Canal music. I’d been on a tour bus, trekking up and down motorways and thought, surely there’s a better way to travel and present music. And of course there is, the slow ways of the canal, stopping off to perform to communities along the way. Working outside of standard music spaces, out in nature and the weather is liberating. You are surrounded by life past, present and future, and there’s a sense of teamwork unlike any other project.”

“Quercus, as ever, were absolutely outstanding.” Audience feedback, Kings Place

Following a sold out performance at Kings Place in October, Quercus continue their autumn tour this month with 3 shows in Cardiff at Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama - Coleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru (13 Nov), St George's Bristol (27 Nov) and Sims Southampton (28 Nov).

The trio brings together multi-award winning UK folk and jazz musicians to create beautiful, lyrical chamber music.

“[June Tabor] totally inhabiting every song, transfixing a packed hall from the first moment…her voice undimmed, as strong and sweeping as ever. Pianist Huw Warren & saxophonist Iain Ballamy have collaborated with her for over two decades now and together they form a perfect unit.” Audience feedback from Kings Place

As we approach our 25th year, we are taking a moment to celebrate the breadth of extraordinary musical encounters we have created in collaboration with artists and presented to audiences.

First up, we look back at some of the rural tours we have produced over the last 25 years.

Polly Eldridge, Sound UK's Director says:
"Maija Handover (co-Director) and I grew up in villages, having to travel many miles on buses or cadging a lift to go and hear music in the nearest towns and cities. We loved bringing innovative and memorable events into the heart of village life, building relationships and creating work with villages and rural communities. The sense of community and close connection was incredibly special, and it was an absolute joy to work with many brilliant people and to visit beautiful places from Shropshire down to Cornwall."
