Let's talk about family tattoo portraits...

I have been honoured to do many of your family portraits over the years and love being able to create a loving memory for you on skin! 🤩

So what makes a good/bad portrait tattoo reference photo? 👍🏻👎🏻 📸

I get sent a lot of photos enquiring about portrait tattoos, but sometimes, a picture won't translate well into a tattoo 😫

This can be for many reasons... There could be bad lighting, blurry, the image has been cropped in a difficult way, the position of the pose looks unusual and unnatural which could risk the tattoo looking incorrect even though it is copying the photo...

Some images make great canvas art, screensavers or Facebook photos, but can't always be used for a tattoo.

So what do I need? What should you be looking for? 📸

The more character and uniqueness your image has, the more striking your tattoo will be. The picture will be on you for a long time, its worth spending the extra time to search for the right one 🥰

In terms of photo quality... the image needs to be clear, high resolution, well lit (not to bright and not too dark). If its an old photograph, is it clear? Can you see the eyes/pupils well? Can you see the whole head/hair (so the image is not cropped)?

If you are blessed to have multiple photos of your chosen person/pet, send over a few and let me know which is your favourite, then I can let you know which one I think is the most recommended for your tattoo. If you're unsure if the image is suitable, send it to me anyway, I will always try my hardest to make sure you get to use the image you want.
