Baobab, powszechnie znany jako „Drzewo Życia”, jest rodzimy dla kontynentu afrykańskiego, a także niektórych regionów Australii i Madagaskaru i jest w stanie żyć przez tysiące lat. Jego naukowa nazwa, Adansonia digitata, honoruje francuskiego botanika Michela Adansona, który udokumentował to niezwykłe drzewo w XVIII wieku.
Baobab Panke w Zimbabwe miał około 2450 lat, gdy obumarł w 2011 r., co czyni go najstarszym kiedykolwiek udokumentowanym okrytonasiennym. Szacuje się, że wiek dwóch innych drzew – Dorslandboom w Namibii i Glencoe w Republice Południowej Afryki – wynosi około 2000 lat.

The baobab tree, commonly known as the “Tree of Life,” is indigenous to the African continent, as well as certain regions of Australia and Madagascar, and is capable of living for thousands of years. Its scientific name, Adansonia digitata, honors the French botanist Michel Adanson, who documented this remarkable tree in the 18th century.
The Panke baobab in Zimbabwe was some 2,450 years old when it died in 2011, making it the oldest angiosperm ever documented, and two other trees—Dorslandboom in Namibia and Glencoe in South Africa—were estimated to be approximately 2,000 years old.
