Some recent work for this dental clinic in Wi******er.
I produced, painted and lettered the large circular logo a few weeks ago, cutting the 150cm disc from a large sheet of external Birch plywood. The contractors collected and fitted it to the wall while the scaffolding was in place.
Then last week I drove up to signwrite the fascia.

Finally managed to start some gold leaf work on my from door.
I had some rain delays this week so it was a good opportunity.

I wanted to create a convex effect so I used a mixture of transfer leaf and loose to get the matt/mirror effect.
A couple of little faults but I’m happy with the overall effect.
Might add some gilded script beneath when I next have a spare couple of hours.

I produced this honours board for Queen’s Park Ladies Golf Club a few years ago. Vaughan lettered all the headings and the first two years entries.

I’ve currently got the sign back in the workshop to add the past three years entries.

I’m currently really enjoying honours board work but it’s taken a while to get to a standard that I feel confident with.

These are 15mm high Roman capitals painted in black enamel paint. The interesting thing with this, and any honours board signwriting, is the continuation of a previous signwriter’s work - in this instance, my dad.
I have my own ways of painting Roman letters so I can execute them swiftly and efficiently, but I always like to try and create some kind of continuity with the previous entries, which is mostly honoured by trying to match the weight and width of the letters and to try and match some of the distinctive flourishes (in this case the notable tails on the R).

I always love to see the subtle differences between different writers on these boards, especially when they go back a long time, but it’s also a good challenge to try and achieve consistency so there are no jarring shifts in style. It’s a subtle balance between matching in with another signwriter’s style, while still using your own techniques to ensure good, confident letters.

Some freehand lower case Roman letters on a customer A-frame that have turned out a little Tim Burton-esque.

Some workshop dates are now live on my website.
I’m doing it differently now so you can book and pay for the workshops online. This is the first time I’ve done this so please message me if there are any issues.

I’ve added a couple of the regular Introduction to Signwriting days, but I’m also running my first CASUAL FLING, a day workshop specialising in casual lettering, as everyone seems to enjoy that stuff.

Drop me a DM if you have any questions.
