It's 2023!

Our first Photobook Conversation is 'AO' by Charlotte Dumas.

On Zoom, Tuesday, January 24th at 18:00 GMT.

This is a regular Zoom event hosted by a group of photographers, where we share our appreciation for photobooks.

The events are initiated to encourage dialogue around these artworks and the narrative they may illustrate.

We will look at a selection of images from the book and discuss aspects, including the concept, form, design, and content. The conversation is informal and attendees are welcome to contribute to the discussion if they wish to. Cameras can be on or off, so come along and enjoy a snippet of this remarkable photobook.

The event lasts approximately forty minutes.

This is a regular Zoom event hosted by a group of photographers, where we share our appreciation for photobooks.

We will look at a selection of images from the book and speak about the concept, form, and design. The events are initiated to encourage dialogue around these artworks and the narrative they may illustrate. Attendees are welcome to contribute to the informal conversation.

Photobook Sessions

On Monday 13th December, will be looking at ‘Still Here’ by Vivian Rutsch.

In a deeply personal and overwhelming work, the artist asks poignantly searching questions while addressing difficult subject matter including: sexual abuse, family trauma, loss and failures of the state.

Vivian speaks of the work:

“There are two things my sister’s death has taught me: you can’t lose someone you love, and every cruelty you can imagine does exist.”

This month we will be looking at:
'I Don't Recognize me in the Shadows' by Thana Faroq.

This immersive book explores the experience of Thana, a refugee from Yemen.

Thana speaks of the work:

“I wanted to offer my own version of the story, one that is infused with my resilient spirit, unbroken, unfailing, and devoid of self-pity. I wanted to climb the fences, and I did”

Noel Bowler will be discussing his project, 'Above The Fold' at Belfast Exposed Gallery.

Photobook Conversations - on Zoom

Join us tomorrow, 20th July at 19:00 for an informal photobook discussion.

We will be looking at 'I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine' by Pacifico Silano.

Silano’s practice involves layering images from a previous time and arranging them according to his artistic vision.

The process of collecting, cutting and collaging the images re-contextualises them. The design of the book extends the concept of creating new narratives. Come along to find out more.

'I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine' by Pacifico Silano.

Pacifico Silano is a lens-based artist whose work is an exploration of print culture, the circulation of imagery and LGBTQ+ identity.

In this book, Silano crops and places images from magazines on top of each other to form a commentary on the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the consequences for the lives of gay people.
