Pattern and Fold

Concept, Process,transitions, development, it's ever evolving.

I was doing minor updates to my profile bio and the online shop when a bit of inspiration struck. I've been striving to make my work more accessible and therefore sustainable and long lasting to more people including myself.

I've been working through trying to develop the original hand painted/hand folded tribute to the key workers from springtime 2020 into a lasting piece of artwork. I'm not sure but i think I've cracked it💡

Wee sneaky peek at what's to come.

Some of you may have noticed already I'm pretty much on hiatus and I have been since early this year. I've decided to make it official while I reassess the direction I want to take things in and get on with some personal projects. I'm not putting a time frame on it so I'll see you when I see you.

It's been a while since I've been in the studio or even done anything specifically creative in the realm of pattern & fold but I've been chipping away at ideas in the background including new ideas for workshops and classes, oh and reviving my architecture skills with my house renovation 🏡🏗🛠

These guys say they've missed me though so that's nice 😀

One more from this series.

These are made up of four folded squares, creased in a simple valley/mountain format spanning from a central diagonal.

I'm still a bit amazed at the structural quality of such simple folds.

Planning on adding another two modules to the layouts to see what forms can be achieved.

I'll hopefully settle on a few pieces to make up and frame as part of a collection.

It's all a bit experimental just now but I'm enjoying the process 😊

Structural folds.

This is an idea I've had in the back of my head for some years and yesterday I finally started to turn the idea into reality.

It's a lovely process for me, taking original artwork of my own and utilising it in this way, it creates a new pattern in itself that can easily be used down the line if i choose.

It's an art work within an art work and I love the outcome!

Taking my time away from the studio to learn how to use new tools, hopefully this will make the process of converting hand drawings to digital art more streamlined.

Do doo do doodles...

I've a box full of edding felt tip pens which has a huge collection of colours generally denoted by the caps but I've found the plastic caps on some colours are more saturated than the pens themselves.

So for ease when I'm using them I created this doodle flower colour chart 🙂
