Ever wonder how foil prints are made? First I draw out the design, and digitise it. Then the design is flipped + made into magnesium plates like these!
I have a special metal base that these plates attach to. I then place the very heavy base into the machine + fiddle about with feeds + positioning for about an hour!
After that I turn on the heat, the plate heats up to over 100 degrees (it varies depending on the type of foil - another thing to fiddle with!) and once the platen is running, the plate will press into the foil between it and the paper. And voila! We have a print.
V lengthy process as you can see! But in my opinion worth the results. A 60 year old press working it’s magic ❤️
