Spectacular Scotland was established in April 2013 to showcase Scotland locally and around the world. The main focus of the page will be Landscapes, Castles and Historical Buildings. All images are photographed with a Nikon D850 and selection of lenses by amateur photographer Neil McDade, the page never uses anyone else's images. May Feature - Ten Places to Visit in Scotland during 2026. 10. Perthshire
Perthshire is known as big tree country due to its large expanse of forests and plentiful tall trees. Castles, gushing rivers and waterfalls, moorlands and mountains also characterise the region with autumn making Perthshire particularly photogenic. My personal favourites are Blair Castle at Blair Atholl and the Hermitage at Dunkeld.

Scotland’s largest City has some stunning architecture, design, museums and parkland. The Victorian Architecture and the Charles Rennie MacIntosh designed buildings are amongst the finest. Other locations worth visiting include the Cloisters at Glasgow Uni, Glasgow Cathedral and the necropolis, The Squinty Bridge, Riverside Museum, Botanic Gardens and my personal favourite the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. fans

One of my favourite areas in Scotland has some of the best preserved castles in the country. So many to mention but my personal favourites are Balmoral, Fyvie, Dunnottar, Drum, Huntly, Crathes, Craigievar and Castle Fraser. There are also some spectacular beaches and craggy coastlines in Aberdeenshire which include Rattray Head, Stonehaven and Balmedie. fans

Castles, Mountains, Seascape and Lochs, Argyll has it all. So many castles here including Inveraray, Kilchurn, Dunstaffnage, Dunollie and Castle Stalker. Oban and Inveraray are main towns to visit but my personal favourite is the Hollow Mountain Ben Cruachan at Loch Awe, an excavated mountain used as a hydroelectric power station. fans

This island is famous for many things including its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, rugged mountains, castles, lighthouses, blackhouses, Mangersta sea stacks, tweed, gin distillery and the popular standing stones at Callanish. fans

Scotland’s capital city has a wealth of attractions such as castles, world class museums, historic bridges, historic monuments, churches and the Royal Palace of Holyrood. My personal favourite is the walk up Arthur’s Seat which has the best views of the city. fans

Some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery is located here with numerous Lochs such as Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine, Loch Lubnaig and Loch Ard. Scotland’s most popular Munro, Ben Lomond is also located here. Other notable attractions include the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, Luss Village, Ben A’an, Balloch Castle Country Park and Conic Hill. fans

Located in the far north and part of the famous North Coast 500, you can visit many icon places including Assynt and Coigach with locations that include Stac Pollaidh, Suilven, Ben Loyal, Stoer Lighthouse and Castle Varrich. fans

This area has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world with its main features being the vast array of mountains that dot its landscape. The famous West Highland Way also goes nearby here with the infamous Devils staircase close-by. fans
