Let’s talk about builder’s holes.
Those who have worked with me know how tidy I am with my work. I cut strips using a saw and guide, often doing multiple at the same time for consistency. When I form openings, they’re always level and uniform — I can feel my OCD kicking in sometimes.
Over the years, I’ve worked on many sites and seen some seriously poor craftsmanship in our trade. Take the last picture, for example — a ready-boarded wall done badly. It doesn’t cost more time or money to pay full attention and deliver a clean, gap-free, tidy builder’s hole.
I often hear tradesmen say, “What’s the point? It’ll be jointed or plastered anyway.” The point is simple — you’re doing 8 hours a day at work, so you might as well take pride in it.
I look at other tradesmen’s work online, and honestly, some of it is shocking. That kind of standard wouldn’t pass inspections on bigger projects — especially multi-million-pound jobs like schools, where the public is involved.
You’ve got one life, and you spend half of it working — so let’s raise the standards. Let’s graft properly and turn our work into something we’re proud of. Let’s make artwork with our hands.

I had a call a few days ago from a returning customer for whom I assembled IKEA furniture many years ago. She asked if I’m still doing assembly work. To be honest, I haven’t done it for a few years, but I decided to help out.
Today I assembled:
✅ 2 × double IKEA PAX wardrobes
✅ 6 × KOMPLEMENT drawers
✅ 2 × sliding underwear shelves
✅ Installed and connected 2 × TRÅDFRI sensor LED light strips
✅ Installed 2 × mesh baskets
✅ 1 × single PAX wardrobe
✅ 4 × shelves
✅ 1 × mesh basket
It was refreshing to know that the customer had saved my number all these years. I wish her all the best and hope the lovely furniture lasts for many years to come.
What a great day it was—one small side project completed, and another project already booked in for a revisit to assemble a few more wardrobes.

SRS Sound bar Accoustic barrier installation.
I had the opportunity to install Soundbar accoustic barrier in one of the Airports. Reason was to protect noise sensitive area from noises coming from reception area.
What was meant to be quick work, turned out to be tricky, slow, and spec heavy. Work needed to be done with cuts tight around services, and penetrations covered with speacialy designed strips.
Total area covered 18m2

Storage unit project for well known brand in London.
Life has given me an opportunity to work on this project. This is one of 4 levels I'm building. It's a fast pace environment where every second counts. Game starts from first delivery to when handower is done. I have broken all records in comparison to those lads who been in trade for years. My advantage is that my brain work from early in the morning till I pass out for sleep. What took weeks for level to be done for multiple regular lads, taking 2.5 weeks from start to finish south side and 3 weeks North side of the drawing.

I was part of the SCS project. I started there to support my contractor by tackling a few remaining jobs that were delaying the project. During this time, I built bulkheads and upstands, wall partitions, and carried out a large amount of suspended ceiling work.

Been a while since I got back on the houseboat project, but this week I jumped into the bathroom build again. For anyone who doesn’t know, I’m a certified Schlüter installer, trained at the Schlüter HQ, so of course the whole setup is done properly.

We started by tanking all the bathroom walls to Schlüter spec. In the shower room I used the Kerdi Shower slope and the Schlüter Kerdi-Line G3 drain. The fun part was adapting a 40mm drain down to 19mm so it could connect to the Gulper 220 24V waste pump — bit of a puzzle but got there.

For the floor, I went with Schlüter Ditra mat and underfloor heating. Fully tested, all working sweet. Tiles are Schlüter as well, plus a bunch of other Schlüter bits throughout.

I had to jump onto another project, so a few things are still left to finish: connecting the towel heater, final plumbing, shower, drains, bidet, and sorting the heating/water system. I still need to solder and connect the LED strip into the floor profiles and run extra wiring for a couple more 24V appliances. Luckily my little hobby with low-power electrics is really paying off right now!

Slow progress, loads of changes along the way, but honestly I’m loving every challenge this project throws at me. Can’t wait to get back and grout the walls and push it closer to the finish line.
