๐ From Volunteers to Lifelong Friends ๐
Volunteering is about so much more than giving your time โ itโs about connection, community, and the friendships that grow along the way.
Gill and Anneโs story is a wonderful reminder of the positive impact volunteering can have on both volunteers and the people they support. Through shared laughter, encouragement, and being there for one another, theyโve built a friendship that has become truly meaningful.
As Gill shared:
โ...we discovered a shared sense of humour and have shared our ups and downs over time. We support each other.โ
And Anne highlights the wider impact volunteering can have:
โ...being a volunteer helps to form friendships, help others and become more active in your community.โ
Volunteering can boost confidence, reduce loneliness, create purpose, and bring people together โ while making a real difference to the lives of others.

๐ Pride Month is a time to celebrate diversity, promote equality, and stand together against discrimination and marginalisation. At Basildon Mind, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and accepted for who they are. ๐
Weโre proud to support the LGBTQIA+ community and recognise the importance of inclusive spaces where everyone can feel connected and valued. Discrimination and exclusion can harm mental health, which is why inclusive, supportive communities matter so much.
Together, we can continue to challenge stigma and build a kinder, more accepting community for all.
Weโre excited to be attending Basildon Pride on Saturday 5th September and look forward to celebrating with our community! ๐โจ

As part of Volunteersโ Week, we want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to every single volunteer who helps make Basildon Mind what it is. ๐
From the friendly voices on our helpline providing support and arranging referrals, to our amazing volunteers at the Human Kind Cafรฉ creating a welcoming and supportive space for our community โ your kindness and dedication make a real difference every day.
Thank you to our volunteer and student counsellors who give their time and skills to support people through difficult moments, and to all of our behind-the-scenes volunteers working across admin, IT, fundraising, social media, policies and procedures, those who volunteer for fundraising events, and so much more.
We are also incredibly grateful to our trustees, chair, treasurer, secretary, and our fantastic charity shop volunteers, whose hard work helps keep our charity running and growing.
It truly takes a community of caring people to support a community, and we are so lucky to have so many passionate individuals involved in our small charity. Because of you, we are able to continue providing vital support, wellbeing activities, and safe spaces for people across our local community.
To every volunteer, thank you for the amazing work you do all year round. Your time, compassion, energy, and commitment never go unnoticed, and we simply couldnโt do it without you. ๐

A massive thank you to those who attended and took part in the Kick 4 Kindness event last week. An incredible ยฃ5,000 was raised to go towards local mental health charities, including Basildon Mind.
Events like this bring people together and, whilst the fundraising itself is incredible, the awareness, support, and community spirit shown throughout the event make an even greater impact. Weโre so grateful to everyone who helped make the day such a success. c2c Rail Southend United Football Club
