It’s the last week of the school holidays, so why not come and enjoy a ride on Basildon Miniature Railway? 😊

We’ll be running daily from 11am until 4pm this week.

After the school holidays, we’ll return to our usual weekend running through to the end of September.

☀️ TEMPORARY CLOSURE – THURSDAY 13 AUGUST

Due to the hot weather forecast for tomorrow, we have taken the decision to close Basildon Miniature Railway for the day.

The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and volunteers comes first.

🚂 We will reopen as normal on Friday 14 August, 11am–4pm. (9:45am early bird special - pre-bookable)

🎉It’s been 1 year since the railway reopened to the public after several years of neglect and closure. A big thank you to all our customer, volunteers and staff at the park who have made it a successful first year in which we saw steam return to the line for the first time since the 90s.

🥂cheers to many more years of success for this much loved railway as we approach its 40th anniversary.

🚧 Part of running a railway is maintaining a railway. After the last service of the day, replaced the casters on our turntable that’s is still performing well after 38 years of service, It’s had some structural welding done and also plans are afoot to replace the central bearing at the end of this season.

🔧 Skilled Engineering Volunteers Wanted – Join the Basildon Miniature Railway Team! 🚂

Do you enjoy solving problems, fixing things, designing improvements or getting stuck into practical engineering projects?

Basildon Miniature Railway is looking for skilled volunteers to help maintain and develop our 10¼ inch gauge railway at Wat Tyler Country Park.

We’re especially interested in hearing from people with experience or an interest in:

⚙️ Mechanical engineering
🔩 Fabrication and welding
🛠️ Machining and workshop skills
🚜 Diesel engines and hydraulics
💡 Electrical systems and controls
📐 Design, CAD and problem solving
🛤️ Track and railway engineering

You don’t need previous railway experience — if you’re a practical person who enjoys making things work, we’d love to hear from you.

The railway is run by volunteers and has been rebuilt from years of disrepair. We’re now looking to grow a small team of skilled people who can help us keep improving our locomotives, rolling stock and infrastructure.

Whether you’re retired, still working, an engineer by trade, a hobby machinist, mechanic, or simply someone who likes a challenge — your skills could make a real difference.
