Back to winning ways! It wasn’t the prettiest game, but it was exactly the sort of hard-fought result we needed. A change of shape, a return to basics and a real willingness to work for each other helped the boys earn three valuable points.

East Budleigh made us work for everything in a scrappy contest. Stand-in keeper Bennett had a strong back four in front of him, with Finn, Jamie, Matt and Sam superb from start to finish. They defended as a unit and made sure Bennett was well protected whenever we came under pressure.

The midfield put in a tireless shift, battling for every ball and helping us get forward. Out wide, the wingers kept asking questions, while Adzy was a constant threat. We created chances to give ourselves a bit more breathing room, but in the end one moment of quality was enough: Tyler Warren scored a superb first-half goal direct from a corner to put us ahead. ⚽️

From there, it took concentration and plenty of hard work to see the game out. The boys stuck together, kept doing the basics well and made sure Tyler’s goal counted for all three points.

MOTM goes to Joe Osborne, who was excellent in the middle of the park. He ran himself into the ground, competed all game and was always a threat when he drove forward. A brilliant shift from Joe and a proper team performance from everyone involved. 👏

Three points, a clean sheet and back on track. Up the Rise! 💪

⚽ MATCH REPORT | EXMOUTH RIPTIDE FC 1–2 MILLWEY RISE AFC ⚽

Rise travelled to their furthest fixture for the season, making the long-ish trip to face Exmouth Riptide FC with a depleted squad and several key players missing from last week's draw.

Millwey started brightly, but as the first half went on the home side began to threaten, passing up a few good opportunities to take the lead.

In truth, there wasn't too much to write home about in the opening 45, and Rise were more than happy to head into the break with the score at 0–0.

The second half saw Millwey grow into the game and eventually take the lead through returning striker Josh Marlow, who delicately chipped the ball over the keeper in to the Exmouth goal! ⚽

At the other end, the makeshift centre-back partnership of Callum Farquhar and Cameron Board had been absolutely impenetrable...

Well, they were until the commentator's curse struck! 😂

Farquhar failed to sort his feet out and clear his lines, allowing a familiar face in Will Denton, who played for Millwey last season, to capitalise and fire home the equaliser for Riptide.

1–1.

But Rise weren't finished.

With virtually the last kick of the game, a missed clearance from the Riptide keeper presented substitute Patrick Tytherleigh with the opportunity to pounce, eventually forcing home another scruffy goal to send Millwey into celebrations! ⚽🙌

All in all, an entertaining and hard-fought game where the result could genuinely have gone either way. But Rise dug deep with a depleted squad and found a way to come away from their longest trip of the season with all three points. 💪
