According to legend, the remains of a Spanish Galleon carrying chests full of gold lay buried at the bottom of Tobermory harbour.
Fleeing from the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, the San Juan de Sicilia took refuge in the bay, intending to take on supplies and make repairs. After a deal between the Spanish captain and the local Scottish chieftain, to provide men and weapons to support a Clan feud, it appears that the Spanish were betrayed when an agent blew up the vessel’s powder magazine.
This is just one of many fascinating stories of Tobermory.

The waters around the Ardnamurchan Peninsula are part of a Marine Protected Area and are renowned for their amazing wildlife.
Much of this can be seen from the boat on one of our wildlife cruises, but if diving is your passion then we provide a private charter service that lets you explore a fascinating underwater world.
You’ll be in the safe hands of skipper, Andy Jackson, who knows the best places to dive and has a wealth of wildlife and diving knowledge and experience.

We’ve a choice of small-group wildlife cruises, including a taster cruise, for those that are pushed for time or unsure if a longer voyage is right for them.
In a leisurely two hour cruise, you’ll cross the calm waters of Loch Sunart towards the hills of Morvern, pass through the Carna Narrows and into beautiful Loch Teacuis.
Throughout, there will be plenty of opportunities to spot some of the amazing wildlife that populates these waters and shores: otters, seals, herons, dolphins, eagles and deer, to name just a few.
