What kind of music should you play when you decide to do this pointless drive to no specific destination? I hope you know which drive I mean. You are usually alone there, but you never feel lonely. Lately it’s been silence that accompanies this long held ritual. But when I first got my driver’s license, the absolute soundtrack was a Johannes Brahms album played on piano by Glenn Gould. A summit meeting of two heartbreaking loners, that served classical music as if it was the only thing they ever loved. To adapt and perform those four Intermezzi on harp was a dream come true.
During post-production, the temptation to succumb to some guilty pleasures, was too great to overcome. A trained ear will notice some ad libitum hard panning in peak moments of the composition, a technique hardly used in classical recordings, as it may disorient the listener. I wonder if a total sense of position is overrated. This very propelling of sound through musical space, is not only an invitation to lose direction, but also a symbolic tribute to the locomotive character of the Intermezzi, as a soundtrack for therapeutically idle car rides.

Just received the work of the amazing , who covered our duo concert „Jardin Suspendu“ with at the imposing Église du Gesù in Toulouse last October. I thank him deeply for allowing me to remember this evening not only with my fantasy, but also through these tangible photos. This project first came to life during our creative residency for last June. For the “Toulouse les Orgues” festival, the project is reborn in a new form. The title “Les Jardins Suspendus” inevitable evokes the mythical Hanging Gardens of Babylon- one of the seven wonders of the ancient world- and the luminous and very familiar to organists, work by Jehan Alain that shares the same name. Here however, the idea extends beyond the realm of myth. The hanging garden becomes a metaphor for the organ itself - suspended between heaven and earth, its countless voices blooming beneath the vaults that shelter it. A garden of sound, where harp, medieval organ and human voice intertwine - sincere and dreamlike. In the arms of the mesmerizing Église du Gesù in Toulouse, we hope to see you there 🪽

„Furniture music“ is how Eric Satie would describe a type of composition that is meant to compliment a space. The utilistic and rather humorous prism under which he suggested art, did not only offer a new path in the creative process, but was also revolutionary in its tactful polemic towards the establishment. But then again, it was the fin de siècle, the most innovative period to be an artist. Today we use the word “ambient” , we facilitate numerous releases of this genre, and support music that decorates one room, while we are in another.

With on violin and Sissi Makropoulou (also ) on harp, “furniture music“ entails arranged music we love by E.Satie and S.Rachmaninoff. The EP was recorded in a rehearsal hall of Megaron Athens, edited by Katerina, mixed and mastered by Sissi. Special thanks to our fav sound engineer on earth .73 for lending us a mic. Returned to Greek waters after a magnifique residence en Toulouse! Organ is by far the most interesting instrument ever and I am almost bored to play again this incapable of depicting the Second Coming instrument : the harp. you are amazing, thank you wonderful , thank you and for putting us together in one church and letting us do whatever we want. Thank you too for your soothing trust and for offering more senses (taste) to all of it (eat) 🤓. Can’t wait for our performance in June. Finally I also met with my till then unique virtual collaborator (we do a track together on my upcoming album), who was kind enough to invite us for a masterclass with her wonderful class.
