Our 2022 Africa Tech Venture Capital Report is live!

Despite the global VC downturn in 2022, the African tech ecosystem continued to grow, with total funding increasing 8% from the previous year to $6.5B. 💸

“Our report revealed the African tech ecosystem showed great resilience”, affirmed Tidjane Deme, General Partner at Partech.

Let’s take a sneak peek into the numbers:

- Fintech led the way as the top sector, with 39% of total equity volume
- Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, and Kenya remain the top investment destinations in Africa, with a 72% share of total volume
- Africa’s tech ecosystem attracted 1,149 unique investors for the first time

“Much of our methodology has remained the same over the years, and we, therefore, can provide a snapshot of how the African continent has evolved over the years”, explained Cyril Collon, General Partner at Partech.

As the summer heats up and we roll in H2 let's take a look back at the biggest news of H1 that went down at Partech. 😎

We now have not one but two new Partners!
Congrats to André François-Poncet and Andrew Whiting. With the closing of Partech Growth II late last year they will both continue to play an instrumental role in our Growth strategy, investing in Europe's next generation of category leaders. 🙌

Elena Moneta was hired as a new Principal in the Venture team. Finn Weise of the Seed team was promoted to Senior Associate and other key members of the Growth team were also promoted with Laetitia Marcadé and Luis Zarate promoted to Senior Associate and Alexis Lancien promoted to Associate. 🎊

EcoVadis , the sustainability ratings purpose-led company, raised $500M , the largest equity fundraising for a sustainability data SaaS company to date. 🌍

Xendit Indonesia , the Southeast Asian fintech unicorn, announced a $300M funding round, with plans for expansion and value-added services like working capital loans, in addition to payments. 🏦

Rohlik , Europe's leading full-basket e-grocer, announced $230M Series D funding . 🥐

CoachHub , the leading global digital coaching platform, secured $200M Series C funding . They plan to expand to Asia Pacific and bolster their team. ✍

Alan , the Parisian insurtech whose flagship product is online health insurance has announced a $193M funding round, a year after obtaining unicorn status, this raise doubles its valuation to $2.9B. 🩺

🔥 2021 proved to be another exciting year for African tech startups with $5.2 billion raised in total equity funding in 681 rounds of fundraising.

🚀 Africa tech grew faster than any other region with 2x the activity of last year and more than 3x the amount invested.

🌍 While Nigeria is now playing in its own league, Egypt, South Africa and Kenya also attracted more than half a billion each; and Senegal reached the Top 5 for the first time.
