Most business owners know when something is off. They just can't see exactly where.

Last week I did this exercise with a group of clients and it stopped people in their tracks. We rated six core business systems on a scale of 1 to 5, then mapped it out visually so you can see where the gaps actually are.

The six systems: database management, marketing plan, lead generation, lead conversion, client success, and business growth.

I also scored myself in the video, including the one area where I gave myself a 2. Because knowing where you're weak is the first step to getting stronger.

Try it and drop your scores in the comments. I'd love to know where you're building.

My sweet mom, Judy Kjar, passed away yesterday morning. She was an extraordinary woman. Too many words to describe her. She was a mother to her 8 kids and so many more. She was a humanitarian- and worked as the president of several nonprofit organizations. She was an amazing grandmother, and always wanted to make holidays special. She was a believer, a giver, a Lerner, a friend, a wife, and mother. She made an indelible mark on the person I am today.
I will always be grateful that she was my mom.

Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 10:30. At the hidden chapel, with a viewing on Friday at Russon Brothers mortuary in Bountiful, Ut.

Life has a way of giving us the highest highs…and the hardest lows.

A few weeks ago, I thought I’d lost my brother. He was gone for over 20 minutes before being resuscitated. Miraculously, he’s still with us and healing, and I’m so grateful.

Today, work is flowing. I’m signing new clients. I’m in the zone.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s this:
When you aren’t afraid to feel any emotion, you get to fully experience all of life.

Let the highs be high. Let the lows teach you.

Whatever season you’re in—I’m cheering you on. You’ve got this. ❤️

Today we celebrate my dad’s life. He was such an example of doing, giving, and loving. For his 85th birthday I did some calculations- his life “by the numbers” here I share some updates
• 89 years of life (would have been 90 in August)
• 64 years of marriage
• Oldest of 5, lost his dad at age 10 (just before his 11th birthday)
• 8 kids
• served 2 LDS missions to Denmark (where 7 of his 8 grandparents were from)
• 19 years of cooking at girls camp
• thousands of Dutch oven dinners
• 46 people who have lived with them.
He was still making things to give away just weeks before he died.
• 1 Amazing life.

🎉 Let’s take a moment to celebrate YOU!
This week is full of celebrations:
✨ My birthday is tomorrow.
✨ Thanksgiving is Thursday.
✨ My clients are wrapping up big launches.
✨ And the holiday season is just around the corner!
But here’s my question for you: What are you celebrating?
Too often, we forget to pause and look back at how far we’ve come. I’ve been there—caught up in worries about the future and forgetting to see the wins right in front of me.
Today, I want to invite you to shift that.
👉 Pick one thing that’s going well in your life or business right now.
👉 Celebrate it—big or small.
👉 Let that celebration fuel your momentum for what’s next.
Because you can do this. You already are. 💪
What’s your win this week? Drop it in the comments so we can celebrate together! 🎉

💡 Did you know your brain works a lot like AI?

Just like AI, your brain is constantly
1.) Evaluating and
2.) Creating

But here’s the thing: unless you direct it, it can get overwhelmed by all the possibilities. 🧠

Want to improve your focus and creativity? Here’s how:

1️⃣ Start by focusing on one task. When we give our brains clear direction, we narrow down the possibilities and make things easier to handle.

2️⃣ Evaluate & create: Your brain is wired to do both. Keep it focused, and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve. 🎯

3️⃣ Same goes for video creation: Pick one clear idea for your videos and watch how your creativity flows. 🎥

Let’s train our brains just like we train AI. 🦾✨

We are more alike than we are different.

That’s one of my favorite lessons I’ve learned from working with the . These are the 10th games I’ve been fortunate enough to work with broadcasting the Olympics. These games in my crew of 5 are all from different countries, 4 different continents. Yet we have more similarities than we realize.

I love the way the Olympics draws us together. From meeting up with friends I haven’t seen for years, to making new ones.

It maybe about sport, and competition- but it’s also about connecting and humanity, and I’m here for it.

What is valuable

I’ve been thinking about this question this week. We moved my parents from their home of nearly 60 years into an assisted living center. Which left my family with the job of sorting through all the stuff that accumulated over the years.

Some things family members wanted to take, others we happily donated to our local thrift store. It’s made me think about the value that something has.

Something I noticed was that the things people wanted to keep had to do with the stories attached to them.

For example: there were the size 12 brand new roller skates still in their box. These were passed up time and time again.
Then, I told the story about my dad, when he was a teen in the late 40’s and early 50’s. He worked in a roller skating rink. He would often “Roller-dance” with the woman who co-owned the rink.

She taught my dad how to skate, while her husband taught him how to fly an airplane. The man had lost his legs in world war two, but could still fly the plane. He didn’t skate as much anymore. It was difficult for the couple to Roller-dance like they had once, so she recruited my dad to learn how to skate. He would leave school early to help out in their numerous businesses. Including a movie theater, skating rink and chicken business

These skates belong to my dad. Who, bought on a whim and kept them in the box- a reminder of his younger days. He bought them, thinking maybe he would pick it up again sometime. There they sat, nearly brand new.

Suddenly, the skates had a story… They were immediately snatched up.

Stories change perception, which changes value. One study found that when a story is attached to an item, the value of that item increases.

That is just one of the reasons I recommend using stories in your videos. They make the video more interesting, and they stick in people’s minds. If you haven’t already done my free storytelling video series- check it out at mattkjar.com
