Broken speaker? Finicky zipper? Anticonsumerist Repair Cafes urge you to fix it instead of pitch it 08/06/2026

Repair café. I love this on all the levels -- knowing how things work, truly owning what you own not just buying it, recycling and keeping things out of landfills, pushback.

Broken speaker? Finicky zipper? Anticonsumerist Repair Cafes urge you to fix it instead of pitch it Repair Cafes are part of a new brand of anticonsumerism. The cafes and other efforts try to offer an alternative to mass-produced, disposable goods that have dominated the economy for the last half-century.

Tour diary day 5&6. Back in London. A few wines with Francie at The George, and hours wandering around the British Museum, looking at artifacts and planning trips (inspired by Egyptian, Turkish and Japanese art today). I’m not a fan of the term bucket list. Just plan on living beautifully and do your thing.

Photo 4: Tidal clock. (SO COOL!). Tells the date, phases of the moon, tides, and the animals in the lunar month. Silver on a bronze stand. 1800s.

Tour Diary Day Four. I love a crescent beach and spent the morning exploring hillside gardens, working waterfront, deserted sandy beach and wandering around downtown Scarborough. I’m reminded of how many Yorkshire town names were repurposed in Maine, and how comfortable Mainers would feel on this coast, and vice versa. Gig tonight at . Music starts at 8pm. If you’re nearby, swing on over.
