AIDL participe au Dialogue mondial sur les trajectoires de développement de l’Afrique dans un monde en fragmentation

AIDL International Foundation et l’Alliance Internationale pour la Défense des Droits et des Libertés AIDL, participeront demain, vendredi 8 mai 2026, au Dialogue mondial sur les politiques intitulé.

Africa’s Development Pathways in a Fragmenting World: Youth, Regional Integration and Sustainable Growth.

Ce Dialogue se tiendra à l’Africa Hall, au sein du Centre de conférences des Nations Unies de la Commission économique des Nations Unies pour l’Afrique, CEA, à Addis-Abeba, en Éthiopie, dans le cadre d’un événement de haut niveau des Nations Unies organisé par le Département des affaires économiques et sociales des Nations Unies, UN DESA, en coopération avec la Commission économique des Nations Unies pour l’Afrique, CEA.

La participation d’AIDL fait suite à une invitation officielle adressée à l’organisation par le Strategic Planning and Communication Service, relevant du Bureau du Sous-Secrétaire général aux affaires économiques et sociales, au sein du Département des affaires économiques et sociales des Nations Unies, UN DESA.

Cette participation institutionnelle reflète l’engagement croissant d’AIDL dans les discussions internationales relatives au développement durable, aux droits humains, à la gouvernance, à l’autonomisation de la jeunesse, à la justice économique et aux trajectoires d’intégration régionale sur le continent africain.

Ce Dialogue revêt une importance stratégique à la lumière des transformations mondiales actuelles, marquées par une fragmentation géopolitique croissante, des défis économiques accrus et l’impact grandissant des crises interconnectées sur les communautés les plus vulnérables, notamment les jeunes, les réfugiés, les personnes déplacées et les populations affectées par les conflits et les crises liées au climat.

AIDL affirme que le développement en Afrique ne peut être abordé sous un angle économique étroit. Il doit reposer sur une approche globale reliant la croissance durable, la justice sociale, la protection des droits humains, la participation civique, l’autonomisation de la jeunesse et l’État de droit.

AIDL considère également que l’intégration régionale africaine constitue un levier essentiel pour bâtir des économies plus résilientes, élargir les opportunités d’emploi, renforcer la protection sociale et permettre aux communautés locales de bénéficier équitablement des processus de développement et de transformation économique.

AIDL souligne en outre que la participation de la société civile à de tels dialogues représente une valeur institutionnelle essentielle, afin de garantir que les politiques de développement demeurent connectées aux réalités du terrain, répondent aux besoins des communautés affectées par les crises et s’alignent sur les principes des droits humains et du développement durable.

Dans ce contexte, AIDL insiste sur l’importance d’intégrer la jeunesse africaine comme véritable partenaire dans l’élaboration des politiques publiques, et non simplement comme bénéficiaire des programmes de développement. Cela suppose d’élargir les possibilités de participation, de soutenir l’innovation, de renforcer une éducation de qualité, d’autonomiser les initiatives portées par les jeunes et de garantir leur accès aux mécanismes de prise de décision aux niveaux national, régional et international.

AIDL considère ce Dialogue comme une plateforme importante pour échanger des perspectives sur l’avenir du développement en Afrique et pour construire des approches plus justes et plus efficaces face aux défis mondiaux, tout en renforçant les partenariats entre les Nations Unies, les institutions régionales, les gouvernements, la société civile et les acteurs de la jeunesse.

AIDL Participates in the Global Policy Dialogue on Africa’s Development Pathways in a Fragmenting World

AIDL International Foundation and the Alliance Internationale (AIDL), will participate tomorrow, Friday, 8 May 2026, in the Global Policy Dialogue entitled.

Africa’s Development Pathways in a Fragmenting World: Youth, Regional Integration and Sustainable Growth.

The Dialogue will take place at Africa Hall, within the United Nations Conference Centre of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, ECA, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of a high level United Nations event organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UN DESA, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, ECA.

AIDL’s participation follows an official invitation addressed to the organization by the Strategic Planning and Communication Service, Office of the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UN DESA.

This institutional participation reflects AIDL’s growing engagement in international policy discussions related to sustainable development, human rights, governance, youth empowerment, economic justice, and regional integration pathways across the African continent.

The Dialogue is of strategic importance in light of current global transformations, marked by increasing geopolitical fragmentation, rising economic challenges, and the growing impact of interconnected crises on the most vulnerable communities, particularly youth, refugees, displaced persons, and populations affected by conflict and climate related crises.

AIDL affirms that development in Africa cannot be approached through a narrow economic lens. It must be based on a comprehensive approach linking sustainable growth, social justice, human rights protection, civic participation, youth empowerment, and the rule of law.

AIDL also considers African regional integration to be a key driver for building more resilient economies, expanding employment opportunities, strengthening social protection, and enabling local communities to benefit fairly from development and economic transformation processes.

AIDL further emphasizes that civil society participation in such dialogues represents an essential institutional value, ensuring that development policies remain connected to field realities, responsive to the needs of crisis affected communities, and aligned with the principles of human rights and sustainable development.

In this context, AIDL stresses the importance of integrating African youth as genuine partners in public policy formulation, not merely as beneficiaries of development programmes. This requires expanding participation opportunities, supporting innovation, strengthening quality education, empowering youth led initiatives, and ensuring youth access to decision making mechanisms at national, regional, and international levels.

AIDL considers this Dialogue an important platform for exchanging perspectives on the future of development in Africa and for building more just and effective approaches to global challenges, while strengthening partnerships between the United Nations, regional institutions, governments, civil society, and youth actors.

AIDL expresses its appreciation for the official invitation extended by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and reaffirms its readiness to continue constructive engagement with United Nations bodies and international and regional partners in support of fair and sustainable development pathways in Africa and beyond.

Hearing on forced exile, removal of nationality and statelessness
European Parliament

The Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold a public hearing addressing forced exile, removal of nationality and statelessness worldwide on 6 May 2026.

The meeting will provide insight into the reality of forced exile via testimonials from the Nicaraguan diaspora and the Rohingya community.

It will also reflect on possible remedies through more academic and international civil society perspectives on the matter, hearing as well representatives from other EU institutions.

AIDL Officially Announces the Opening of Its Branch in the United Kingdom

The International Alliance for the Defence of Rights and Liberties AIDL, officially announces the opening of its branch in the United Kingdom, marking a strategic institutional step that strengthens its international presence within one of the world’s most influential environments in the fields of human rights, the rule of law, democratic governance, justice, and international civil society action.

The opening of AIDL’s branch in the United Kingdom represents a qualitative transition from representative presence and institutional engagement to a formal and structured presence, expanding AIDL’s capacity to build effective partnerships, develop advanced human rights initiatives, and strengthen its presence in the United Kingdom, across the Commonwealth, and within the wider international space.

AIDL affirms that this step constitutes a central milestone in its global expansion and consolidates its position as an international civil society actor committed to defending rights and liberties, protecting human dignity, supporting justice, assisting victims, and strengthening the role of civil society in addressing crises and violations.

This development is of particular importance given the United Kingdom’s international standing and its influential role in human rights, international law, accountability, parliamentary engagement, and multilateral diplomacy. This new presence also provides an advanced institutional environment for dialogue, advocacy, and cooperation with civil society, human rights, research, and parliamentary institutions.

Through its branch in the United Kingdom, AIDL will work to strengthen cooperation with human rights and civil society actors, particularly in the areas of protecting public liberties, supporting international accountability, monitoring and documenting violations, protecting civilians in conflict areas, developing safe reporting channels, assisting victims, advancing climate justice, and defending freedom of expression.

The United Kingdom branch will also play a central role in supporting integration among AIDL’s offices and international networks, consolidating a unified institutional vision, and strengthening AIDL’s participation in international spaces concerned with human rights, democratic governance, the rule of law, sustainable development, prevention of grave violations, and the fight against impunity.

AIDL notes that it has, during the past period, engaged in institutional communication channels with official and parliamentary actors in the United Kingdom in the context of following up on priority international human rights issues.

AIDL values this institutional engagement and considers it an important basis for strengthening responsible dialogue, expanding cooperation, and building serious working bridges that serve the protection of rights, liberties, and the rule of law.

La CRESS Île-de-France constitue un cadre institutionnel important, réunissant plus de 200 adhérents issus des différentes composantes de l’économie sociale et solidaire, et représentant, à travers ses réseaux membres, plus de 6 000 structures, associations et organisations actives dans ce secteur.

Créée officiellement le 17 mars 2000, la CRESS Île-de-France œuvre depuis lors au renforcement de la visibilité, de la structuration et de l’impact de l’économie sociale et solidaire en Île-de-France, tout en accompagnant les acteurs engagés dans des initiatives à forte utilité sociale et en portant leur voix auprès des institutions publiques.

L’appel a été officiellement présenté le 1er mai 2026 aux États parties au Traité sur la non prolifération des armes nucléaires, lors de la séance plénière de la Conférence d’examen du TNP 2026, au siège des Nations Unies à New York.

AIDL International Foundation and the International Alliance AIDL signed the Nuclear Abolition Day Appeal, a global call for the elimination of nuclear weapons worldwide and the advancement of human security and international peace.

This signature comes as part of a broad international civil society mobilization supported by more than 670 organizations and over 1,400 individuals from 101 countries.

The appeal was formally presented on 1 May 2026 to States Parties to the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons during the plenary session of the 2026 NPT Review Conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

AIDL International Foundation and the Alliance Internationale AIDL affirm that this engagement reflects their firm institutional commitment to advancing international peace, protecting civilians, strengthening human security, defending the right to life, safeguarding human dignity, and upholding international law.

On the Occasion of World Press Freedom Day

AIDL International Foundation and the Alliance Internationale pour la Défense des Droits et des Libertés (AIDL), commemorate World Press Freedom Day and pay tribute to all journalists who continue to uphold their professional mission in defending truth, exposing violations, and protecting societies’ right to access information.

AIDL reaffirms that press freedom is not a professional privilege nor an optional space. It is a fundamental safeguard for protecting truth, preserving human dignity, ensuring accountability, and preventing impunity.

Access to reliable, verified, and independent information remains one of the essential foundations for building peaceful, just, and resilient societies capable of confronting disinformation, polarization, hate speech, authoritarianism, and human rights violations.

In a world where truth is increasingly distorted by falsehoods, and where information can determine the difference between life and death, protecting journalists and independent media institutions has become a legal, ethical, and institutional obligation that cannot be delayed.

A free press does not merely report events. It exposes violations, uncovers corruption, amplifies the voices of victims, protects the public’s right to know, strengthens accountability, and creates space for responsible public dialogue.

Accordingly, targeting journalists, restricting their work, intimidating them, damaging their reputations, or silencing them constitutes a direct attack on the right to truth, freedom of expression, democracy, and the rule of law.

AIDL further stresses that any reality where news appears to suggest that everything is fine while violations are concealed, independent voices are suppressed, and censorship or self-censorship is imposed under pressure, is a reality that demands concern and accountability, not complacency.

The manipulation of information threatens not only journalism itself, but also social peace, public trust, democratic stability, and accountability mechanisms, while enabling perpetrators of violations to evade scrutiny.

On this occasion,
AIDL expresses its deep appreciation to journalists who continue to work with courage and professionalism, particularly in conflict zones, humanitarian crises, and repressive environments where reporting the truth often comes at great personal risk.

AIDL calls upon governments, international institutions, media platforms, technology companies, and all relevant stakeholders to take concrete and effective measures to protect press freedom, ensure the safety of journalists, combat disinformation, safeguard public access to information, and hold accountable those responsible for crimes and violations committed against media professionals.

Protecting a free press is not solely a professional issue concerning journalists. It is a societal and humanitarian imperative directly linked to the future of peace, justice, human rights, and good governance.

Peace begins with truth.

Journalism builds peace.

Truth protects societies.

Press freedom is a collective responsibility that cannot be compromised.
