Arab Water Council (AWC) webinar | “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows” & “Sustainable Water toward a Secure Future”

🎙️ 💧 This high-level webinar brought together institutional leaders, experts, and regional organizations around an issue that has become central: how to strengthen security through more inclusive, cooperative, and effective .

Speakers included H.E. Nada El Agizy, Director of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the جامعة الدول العربية - League of Arab States, H.E. Prof. Mahmoud Fath-Allah, Chief Economist of the League of Arab States, H.E. Prof. Mahmoud Abu-Zeid, President of the AWC, along with several leading regional experts.

On this occasion, Yasmine Seghirate, Administrator at the CIHEAM, recalled that the water, agriculture, and participatory governance nexus constitutes one of the foundations of any sustainable transition in the .

🌾 💧 The discussions highlighted that water-related challenges directly affect , security, employment, and the of territories. They call for responses based on regional , strong institutions, and governance that brings together public authorities, experts, civil society, youth, and the private sector.

The CIHEAM also reaffirmed that the full participation of in water , agricultural , and bodies represents both an imperative for equity and a lever for economic efficiency.

The CIHEAM continues its commitment alongside the Arab Water Council, the Union for the Mediterranean, and numerous partners to promote concrete initiatives in favor of water security, innovation, and the of women and youth.

The CIHEAM at the 65th Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG RRD) General Assembly 🌍

Today, the CIHEAM Secretary General, Teodoro Miano, is speaking at the 65th General Assembly of the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group in South Eastern Europe (SWG).
This meeting is a pivotal moment for strengthening the Euro-Mediterranean-Balkan axis and building a shared vision for the rural heart of South Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean basin.

In his speech, Mr. Miano reflects on the signed in February 2026 between CIHEAM and SWG, which unites CIHEAM's sixty-four years of expertise with SWG's regional leadership to create a powerful "knowledge hub".

Our shared priorities include:
🔹The and reintegration of the Western Balkan countries into the CIHEAM.
🔹The creation of joint programs for and development.
🔹The centrality of the human element, with special attention given to , , and who are the driving force behind our rural economies.

Now the objective is clear: to move beyond the administrative framework to build solid bridges between our regions.

Le 15 avril 2026 à Paris, la deuxième édition du Déjeuner des Ambassadeurs a réuni les représentants des États membres et des pays partenaires autour des grandes priorités de la région.

Les échanges ont porté sur la transition des systèmes agroalimentaires, la gestion durable de l’eau, l’adaptation au changement climatique, ainsi que sur l’importance d’investir dans la jeunesse et les femmes.

Dans un contexte marqué par des tensions croissantes, les participants ont souligné la nécessité de préserver un dialogue ouvert et multilatéral, de promouvoir la paix et d’exprimer leur solidarité envers les populations affectées par les conflits en Palestine et au Liban.

💧 Following (22 March), the CIHEAM organized a meeting to ensure a coordinated corporate CIHEAM-wide contribution to the forthcoming Water Forum 2026 in . The meeting focused on strategic positioning, common messages, identifying joint sessions and side events, and promoting of flagship projects and training initiatives.

This meeting brought together the Directors of the CIHEAM Institutes of Bari, Chania, Zaragoza and Montpellier, alongside selected representatives of national water institutions and the Italian “One Water Committee”.

This morning session provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with national water authorities and regional partners in support of security, resilience and resource management in the region. 💧 🌍
