Being a refugee is never a choice 🏳‍🟧‍⬛‍🟧

According to the United Nations, every minute 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror.

🌐Each year on 20 June, the world honours the courage of those who have been forced to flee their home country due to a well-founded fear of persecution because of their ethnicity, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.

🇺🇳 This year, the World Refugee Day focuses on the right to seek safety as a common safeguard for all of us. Because safety must be for everyone, not a privilege for few.

Our EU-funded PACT project advocates for this. By working with local authorities, civil society organisations and community actors, it promotes minorities’ participation in the EU. Because no one should be excluded from community life, and everyone must be able to exercise the right to participate in the local decision making process.

What does it really take to turn coordination into a form of leadership?
In our latest article, Karla Tijero, PLACE's Program Manager of the Arts, Culture & Society Hub, reflects on growing up between Sweden and Peru, a journey that transformed questions of identity, belonging, and structures from abstract theories into a lifelong commitment. From her roots in community-based projects to leading the Artivism Alliance today, Karla's experiences have fundamentally shaped her understanding of what it means to create space for others to lead.
This article explores how structure and care can coexist in program management. Karla challenges the idea that project delivery is just about compliance and budgets, instead showing how human-centered systems, trust, and collective movement-building are the true backbones of lasting impact. For Karla, lived experience is not simply something to be represented: it is a vital source of knowledge, leadership, and innovation.
Because changing systems is not only about changing policies. It is about changing whose voices are recognized as experts, creators, and leaders. ✍️

We don't wait for change, we fight for it 🥊
In Policy Labs where communities are finally heard. In networking rooms where migrant entrepreneurs rewrite their futures. On stages where lived experience becomes the loudest voice in the room. PLACE has been showing up where change needs to happen. In 2025, we organized our work around three strategic hubs, each with its own arsenal, its own terrain, its own power.
Because transformation doesn't wait for the right moment, and neither do we.
Swipe to meet your fighter and discover how we show up by reading our “Pathways to Transformation” section in PLACE’s 2025 annual report: https://place-network.org/3d-flip-book/zoom-on-2025/

Take a little look behind the scenes of our recent Workshop 🔑✨
On May 20th, we opened the doors of our Paris office for an evening dedicated to the PACT project. The energy in the room was incredible as city councillors, journalists, CSO leaders and community members gathered to redefine what inclusive local governance actually looks like.
From analyzing how to bring models like Policy Labs into local contexts, to brainstorming tailored strategies that ensure youth and underrepresented groups are never left out, the evening was packed with collaboration.
We wrapped up the night with an inspiring networking session alongside our President, Rohullah Sidiqullah, and our Resilient Cities facilitator, Kaskil. Seeing so many changemakers leave inspired to launch community-driven solutions in their own fields is a powerful reminder of our mission here at PLACE 💼
Thank you to everyone who joined us to co-build the future of local governance.

From learning the ropes to taking the European stage... our youth are officially rewriting the rules!📝

We've been busy behind the scenes empowering the next generation of policymakers. Let's look back at what we've achieved so far and what's coming next.

⏩ WHAT'S NEXT?
Watch out, we're not done yet! Here's what's on the horizon:
🗓️ Our 4th online WP workshop is happening this Thursday, on June 11th (15:00-17:00). Participants will team up to brainstorm and draft brand-new proposals.
🗣️ Later this June, the youth will gather for a massive transnational debate where they will discuss and exchange on the policy papers developed throughout the project.
🚄 This will lead up to the final conference in Brussels, where they will present their selected policy paper.

The future of EU policy is being written right now. Stay tuned to watch these ideas turn into action 🚀

🌍 The ParticipACTION program is co-funded by the European Union and implemented in collaboration with International Rescue Committee Italy Glocal Factory Generation for Change CY and Youth association Mano Europa

🎨 In Artivism We Believe
Let's create space for the voices that help shape this community: artists using creative methods to challenge, unite & take action.
This carousel brings together some of the artivists in our community, each explaining in their own voice what they believe "artivism" is.
Similar views with one heartbeat: art as an opportunity to create movement among people, transform stories, and envision (build) a better world together.
