“For this painting, I made drawings of
Mick Turner while he played live with Bleak Squad at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville, Sydney. My intention was to capture and internalise a sense of mark, light and colour from his fleeting likeness and characteristic physical posture during a performance, which I could then translate into paint. The whole composition of the painting riffs on the feeling of Mick Turner’s singular, mysterious, hypnotic music”

On this day in 1982, the Sunnyboys single “You Need a Friend” debuted on the Australian charts (May 10)

In the liner notes of the compilation album, “Sunnyboys, Our Best of” (December 2013), songwriter Jeremy Oxley wrote, ""You Need a Friend" is a sort of anthem for teenagers.

I looked at my own experience and around at others and we were feeling the same thing.
We all wanted a good time, not to be hassled.

It was, and still is, a hard time in life.
You are trying to find yourself and grow but wanting to do it in your own way - not how everybody is telling you how you should be."

The lead single from their second LP “Individuals” only peaked at #38, but I loved it.

There are some scenes in the video that are actually from Jeremy Oxley’s back verandah…
