The greatness of Mahmoud Darwish

Come fare solo a pensarlo? Grazie.

THE GREATNESS OF MAHMOUD DARWISH
A special issue of K – R***e trans-européenne de philosophie et arts dedicated to Gaza.
«La poesia non muta nulla. Nulla è sicuro, ma scrivi» – Franco Fortini
We do not know whether Gaza will survive its own end. Where is Gaza now, as it vanishes?
Perhaps in some verse by Darwish? In an image torn from the catastrophe by those who live inside it? Let us suppose that Gaza’s escape from its end may lie in a radical act of desertion — an image, a voice, that breaks the occupation and bears witness to the untestifiable
This special issue, now available for free download, is the result of a collective and passionate effort.
We sincerely thank all authors, institutions, and archives that generously contributed texts, images, and artworks.

Designing among permeable practices: Notes on Igual que Long Beach
The visual materials for Igual que Long Beach emerged from a collaborative process. The central image—used for posters, postcards, Instagram posts, and stories—was provided directly by the artists: an extension of their practice and a gesture of involvement even beyond the exhibition setup.
For this project, we used our open-source design system EXTRA (soon available publicly), conceived to support cultural initiatives through reusable, minimal layouts. Combined with Apfel Grotesk, a typeface designed by Luigi Gorlero, this structure supported a visual language that is both accessible and formally rigorous, aligned with the needs of artist-run and independent spaces.
In this context, graphic design became part of the exhibition itself. Printed matter, digital layouts, and documentation posts were not just supports—they became tools of proximity, attention, and critical presence.
Working within these practices as a designer and photographer allowed me to engage intellectually with the exhibition process and its relational foundations.
Thanks to Tramandars for producing the full-color printed supports (poster and postcard), and to Vetro Italia S.R.L. for supporting the black-and-white version.
Gratitude to everyone who took part in different ways.
Igual que Long Beach, the first duo exhibition in Italy by Darya Diamond and Esther Gatón, curated by Christian Taranto for Tramandars, was hosted at Pu-téca, a votive kiosk for contemporary art in Borgo Casamale (Somma Vesuviana, Naples), and remained on view until July 15, 2025. teca

In May 2025 I documented Montagna – Corte Vico II San Michele 2025, a temporary pavilion of contemporary art in the Vesuvius red zone.
The sound performance by Mario Gabola and Giuseppe Vietri was the central public moment of the program.
The event also featured works by , , , Loretta Mesiti, Meike Gleim and myself, Giovanni Ambrosio
This documentation is part of my ongoing archive series Document & Archive - link in bi acces - focused on performances, installations, and temporary art practices. Glad to document voices from Naples’ experimental music scene — underground, but vital to contemporary sound culture.

A glimpse of the promotional work based on design (thanks to the brilliant Elise Dubois) and photography for the upcoming show in Helsinki, The Singing of the Sirens, at Omapohja Studio Helsinki this October 2024. Theperformance, led by Heli Keskikallio and the working group, brings forth the power of femininity, entangling human voices and dance.
This opportunity allows me to push forward the research on archiving and documenting contemporary performing art pieces.

How to depict, how to get a mark of it, how to archive a performance.
Design and photography for contemporary dance piece The Singing of the Sirens, Heli Keskikallio and the working group. The Singing of the Sirens is a performance that brings forth the power of femininity, entangling human voices and dance.
